I’m sure this thread will be nice and sensible and not descend into dog whistles or outright racism…
Notting Hill is just an excuse to push the social limits as hard as you can, whether that’s drinking, drugs, violence or even clothing.
Residents fear it, participants of the carnival from when it first started hate what it has become.
The sensible people start leaving at 12 and anyone left after 5 is risking everything.
It’s not really a race thing, the carnival has just become a home for those who want to behave abhorrently.
There’s not even a real carnival atmosphere. There’s a few people in dress but not many, the front page of metro doesn’t really paint what it actually looks like. The floats are just trucks with the sides cut out and sound systems blaring music that is different from the truck in front so it becomes indistinguishable from industrial drilling.
For the police I can only imagine what they see, they don’t get any of the good parts of the carnival and only the negatives.
Remember this is the same police force that wanted to permanently close Brixton Academy.
They will always be against large events. It would be easier for them if they didn’t happen.
I don’t know how you can pack that many people into such a small space and not expect bad things to happen. I’ve seen some videos of the crush at this event and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near it.

The idea of having a route that ends in Hyde Park would have addressed some of the crowding concerns, but done nothing about those who use the event as a cover for illegal activity.
Maybe one Carnival the police who boycott it altogether, then we could see just how much gang violence and assault the police officers are preventing every single year
Feel so sorry for the police, theirs is by far the most dangerous and traumatic of pretty much any normal job and yet the leftwing media treat them like absolute garbage, gleefully hyping up the rare instances of police abuse of power whenever it happens, and actively stir up anti-police hatred in ethnic minority communities (which helps to break down trust which is required for good policing)
