  2. There is something called Tariff/Duty drawback on imported items that are then exported. Most of the oil that is imported from Canada is transshipped to eastern Canada or refined and exported. While the US is a net exporter of oil products, the big issue is the west coast of the US imports oil because there isn’t the right mix of crude available to them domestically on the pipelines and the difficulty of piping oil over the continental divide. This is a not a simple scenario.

  18. The absolute best thing Canada and Mexico can do, is nothing at all. Call Trump’s bluff, make him do what he’s threatening to do. His “Art of the Deal” is just bullying. Things get harder on Canada and Mexico either way, it’s just a matter of degrees. And if they capitulate to Trump’s demands this time, they’re setting a pattern indicating they will always do it.

    So they really should just shore up, take a stand. Look for trade deals elsewhere and leave America to rot.

    And boy does that suck to say, given that I am American.
