  1. Fined only $158,000 for this crime. Someone needs to go to jail for stealing from society and our environment.

The daily operating cost of his yacht alone is $137,000.

They were barely fined one day’s worth of operating costs.

Do you think they’ll just pay the fine and do it again?

At this point, it’s cheaper to do what you want and pay the fine versus follow the rules.

  2. Hard to inflict any kind of just, or lasting punishment when governments all pretty much serve capital over people.

  3. Probably going to get downvoted for this but what the hell

Yes, the fine was too low and there should be stricter laws and more significant punishments for the companies that use conflict products.

But, I don’t think that the end consumer should be held liable for what a company did. If I buy a pair of Nikes and they are found to (again/still) be using sweatshops to produce them, should someone come confiscate my shoes? Bezos probably said, “yeah, I’d like teak floors” to which the company replied “yes sir, no problem”, and that is likely the most Bezos had to do with the situation, if even that.

TL;DR – The end consumer should not be responsible for a company’s shitty, exploitative supply chain; even if the consumer is a shitty, exploitative person.

Edit: Mixed up my oligarchs, changed Musk to Bezos.

  4. 2nd richest guy in the worlds boat, I have no faith that anything meaningful is going to happen. Wealth and white, get out of jail free card.

  5. we need to be making chainmail and plate armor for that pod of killer whales delivering objectively fair justice to yacht people, as well as helping them to spread the behavior to other pods

  6. i dont see the big deal, im sure he got it at a great price.
