  1. I don’t get why you need to put “religious” in there.

He’s a cunt who believes in something only a cunt would believe, which has nothing to do with religion

  2. So just to be clear:

Should I disapprove because he is intolerant of other people’s sexuality?

Or approve because I respect his religious right to disapprove if his God tells him to?

Or just call him a c*nt because I live in Norwich and he plays for Ipswich?

  3. It was pointed out in r/soccer that he was happy to play in kits plastered with gambling adverts on them, so he is selective about which aspects of his religion to follow.

  4. It’s not because of his religion. It’s because he is a homophobe.

Happily wore a kit with a betting company plastered on it for loads of games. Won’t wear a rainbow armband for 1 game.

He is hiding behind his faith.

  5. No one should be forced to virtue signal for anyone in a work environment however merit worthy a particular cause happens to be for you.

Workers should to be allowed to participate if they want or be left to avoid it if they don’t.

All that should matter is that in a work situation is that your primary focus is doing your the job you are paid for without being vilified, attacked or feel the need to have to explain why they’re not partaking to support a causes they do not wish to take part in.

  6. Surely his religion has laws about gambling and usury….

  7. I’d be fine with him using religion as a cop out if he didn’t wear a shirt twice a week with a gambling company on it. Gambling destroys lives and ultimately is a choice, being gay shouldn’t ruin your life and isn’t a choice. He’s not critical of gambling because it pays his wages, so he’s a hypocrite.

Guy is just a pathetic homophobic loser hiding behind his religion. He is a dirty player too which will be of zero surprise that someone who thinks like a caveman behaves like one.

  8. As is his right within a free society that allows freedom of religion and expression.

Not sure why everyone is getting hysterical in this thread.

  9. Genuine question, are we expected to be outraged at this? He chose not to wear an armband that is effectively virtue signalling for gay (maybe even LGBT also?) people.

It’s not like he’s outwardly saying he hates gay people.

Even if you are gay, are you outraged at that? Surely you just think “huh, I guess he’s not in support of us” and move on with your life. Why do we make everything a with us or against us situation now?

  10. I don’t think anyone should be forced to wear it

    Obviously no one is anyway

And he’s allowed to have his very wrong opinion and think whatever he wants to think

But I’m entitled to my opinion

And my opinion is that he’s a fucking wanker

  11. Samy Sayed Mekkay Saied Morsy, refuses to wear a rainbow armband, in a music filled stadium, paid for by companies that provide interest bearing loans and gambling companies, with his bear knees broadcast to millions worldwide and a beard that is pretty much designer stubble. If he didn’t have double standards he would have no standards at all but meh there are lots of people about whom you could say very similar things.

Bollocks to Ipswich this is their captain…

  12. Can anyone actually provide a good faith explanation as to how this isn’t just homophobia, given his religious beliefs aren’t reason enough to not sign contracts to wear shirts with gambling sponsors on the chest?

I would be interested to hear that broken down. In particular, if this line of reasoning argues that any sponsor is just out of his control, i.e. he wouldn’t have an issue with a pork pie or alcohol sponsor on the chest?

  13. So why are people being forced to wear something if they don’t want to its just an accessory for the kit not part of it, i get its to be “inclusive” or whatever, but it’s hipocritcal to tell people they have to wear something then complain when they say no.

  14. Don’t have a problem with him not wearing the armband. He should be free not to wear it
The problem I have is the bullshit excuse.

If your religion was the issue, then you wouldn’t be advertising gambling websites on your chest.

  15. I don’t think he should go to jail for this opinion. I don’t think he should lose his job or be forced to wear it.

But I do think he is a homophonic hypocrite , hiding behind religion so he can preach his hate.

  16. I think it’s more about his fragile masculinity rather than religion.

  17. Just say you think gay people are gross, we all know that’s what you think so just say it. “I refuse to wear rainbow laces cause I hate the people they represent”

  18. Absolute non issue. It’s worse people on here slagging him off, he can do what he wants.

  19. Most Muslims drink and gamble I know they always been selective but never the gay stuff that always a no 🤷‍♂️🤣

  20. What is the Venn diagram of commenters who believe Sam Morsy should be free to express his religious views, and commenters who think Muslim values are taking over the UK?

A quick scan suggests an overlap.

  21. Tolerance paradox, this kind of behaviour is the cost of living in a tolerant society.

  22. There really shouldn’t need to be any justification asked or given.

  23. Why should he ? So many liberals defend James McLeans right not to wear a poppy.

I wouldn’t wear rainbow laces, I won’t cave in to this social trend of appeasing everyone. I certainly wouldn’t promote or back an organisation who encourages children whose brains have not fully developed to take hormones and have life altering surgery before the age of 25.

    Guess I’m a Nazi.

  24. Sunan Abi Dawud 5224

AbdurRahman ibn AbuLayla, quoting Usayd ibn Hudayr, a man of the Ansar, said that while he was given to jesting and was talking to the people and making them laugh, the Prophet (ﷺ) poked him under the ribs with a stick. He said: Let me take retaliation. He said: Take retaliation. He said: You are wearing a shirt but I am not. The Prophet (ﷺ) then raised his shirt and the man embraced him and began to kiss his side. Then he said: This is what I wanted, Messenger of Allah!

  25. Shocking, ‘Persons declines promoting symbolism of something they don’t agree with’. If you asked, say, a Buddhist to wear a Cross to promote religious harmony, some might do it, but some would not.

Now, if you start accusing him of selective religious tolerances, then your dangerously close to one of Kiers special hate crime offences, and they will have to release some more peso’s to make room for the hurty word brigade.

We, as a society, should be way past this nonsense.

So far past it that there isn’t a need for ‘rainbow laces’

We should be at the point of ‘acceptance and unity’, in fact, at one point, in the 90’s, before they started dividing us up again with political correctness and cultural appropriation, we were pretty damn close…..

Looks like we have a long way to go.

  26. Damn, if only Christians had some sort of rainbow symbol as well

  27. I always find it puzzling that the majority of Muslims find homosexuality morally wrong ([around 1-2%ish think it’s morally acceptable in most Muslim countries](https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2013/04/30/the-worlds-muslims-religion-politics-society-morality/#:~:text=In%20most%20countries%20surveyed%2C%20fewer,Bosnia%2DHerzegovina%20(10%25))) yet they take no issue with their prophet marrying a 6 year old and [raping her when she was just 9](https://sunnah.com/bukhari:5134)

    It’s quite telling really.

  28. He’s a bigot but I prefer the world where we mock him rather than the one where he gets anything more substantial as a consequence

  29. I feel like to a certain degree this is completely fair. Noone should be able to force him to wear an armband, but if his reputation (rightly) suffers then that is also completely fair.

  30. Who cares? nobody should be forced to wear something they don’t want to wear, as technically a member of LGBTQ even though I don’t consider myself so, this is all just pointless

  31. The same people here outraged are the ones defending James McLean for his decision on not wearing a poppy etc, which I find odd.

This is football, and footballers are the last folk I’m going to be looking to for guidance on societal and political issues, much less the bloody Ipswich captain. It’s all just pointless posturing anyway, rainbow laces/armbands? Come on. Complete delusion if you think that will have any affect on homophobia whatsoever
