Berezovskaya misled the public by claiming in several publications and social media posts that she was “independent journalist, Reporters Without Borders” and “member of the international organization RSF”.

The former employee of the propaganda outlet Baltnews, owned by the Russian state-controlled Rossiya Segodnya, has never worked for RSF.

Although Berezovskaya was a member of the RSF, a status available to anyone who pays the annual membership fee, she was in no way entitled to position herself as a representative of the RSF or to claim to have an official position in the organization.

After the organization unsuccessfully had asked Berezovskaya to stop making false statements in clear contravention of the RSF Statutes, the Executive Board decided to expel her.

Berezovskaya has received an official letter announcing her expulsion.

The letter asks her to immediately withdraw all publications in which she positions herself as an active member of the organization and to stop falsely claiming that she is an RSF journalist or that she represents the organization in any way.

If this deception continues, RSF may file a complaint in court for fraud and other relevant charges to protect its rights and reputation, the organization warned.
