Hi,
I am moving to Germany and found this apartment offer on Facebook marketplace in Wiesbaden. The pictures were high quality and the description of the apartment was written in German.. but when I contacted them, this is what came and I myself if this is some kind of scam:

  1. 100% a scam, written in english and not german, insane lore and backstory to rival dan brown in plot, usually all of these scams for apartments will have the owner living somewhere outside of germany and will ask money to be sent to them in advance etc.

  2. If the owner is not in the Country for and Part of the normal rental process just asume it is a Scam.

  3. Happened to me, didn’t fall for it. 100% the same email, jargon everything. Don’t fall for it.

  4. If the “landlord” starts with explaining that he is “currently” not in germany, than it’s a scam.

  5. If they tell you a weird backstory and tell you they’re abroad and want to do the process paid through some companies RUN

  6. LMAO even the text is similar to what I have seen, but that person claimed to be in Spain, so might be less scam (99.9%).

  7. well what do you think? why would a landlord write an entire paragraph to describe themselves and write their entire life story? on top of that it’s so cheap that everybody should get suspicious and all additional costs are somehow included in that price… 100% scam, it can’t be any more obvious

  8. Yeah there are no air conditioners in Germany haha

  9. Yes, common scam. Reverse image search the pictures of the listing, i’m sure they were stolen off someone else, and you’ll see they’ve been used and reused many times.

  10. From the wall of text it certainly a scam, not even need to read through it.

  11. Landlord giving you details and not treating you like a shit is 1000 % scam

  12. even Shaggy and Scooby-Doo can tell that it is a scam 🙂

  13. Just ask him to send 1000 Euros so you can release your funds to pay the downpayment and the rent

  14. Yes, it is a scam, completely, and a friend of mine fell for it so it’s a complete no. Please don’t.

  15. Yes, this is a scam. And the warning signs are always the same. As soon as there is a lot of backstory by the owner, explaining to you why he is not in Germany at the moment, it’s 100% fraud. No exceptions.

  16. Air conditioner and landlord telling you his life story = guaranteed scam

  17. 100% scam. Nobody who rents out a flat will confront you with a sob story like this one.

I once had a flat offer that also was clearly a scam. They had pictures of what were clearly different flats. So one photo would have the base of a tree showing through the window, whilst another had tree tops showing. It was so obvious it was kinda funny. They wanted to do all the financial stuff via western union, another clear sign of a scam. So I offered to pay the entire year in advance to spare me the hassle. The scammer was so keen at that point to get way more money than they had intended to, he was really happy to comply. So I told him to send me the whole offer including transfer details etc to my work email. I then told him that my work email was info@bka.de which is owned by the German federal police. So basically I had him report himself to the police. He then went on to send me some really insulting mails including death threats. I guess he got a good scare when they answered his mail, with the scam offer. It was fucking hilarious. I had so much fun. 10/10 would recommend
