1. Pretty sure the gypsies weren’t kept away from the Nazi Christmas markets in quite the same way

2. Nazi Germany did a tad more than block folks from going somewhere

   I do feel all these comparisons to the Nazis belittle and undermine how evil that regime was.

3. And the march is being allowed? Sod that. Guaranteed that everyone else’s experience of those markets was significantly better because those teenagers were turned away. They’d have ruined it.

7. To those commenting the Nazi’s did a lot more. Nazi Germany is not just the late 1930s, it’s also the early stages before the holocaust and ghettos started.

10. How can yoù be a permanent traveller in this day and age. Surely you would arrive somewhere eventually. Perhaps they should get jobs and a house and pay tax, then they would be welcome.

13. I used to live in Newark years back, and I worked for a traveller guy. Him and his family were some of the nicest people I’ve ever met..

14. This comments section proving that anti GRT racism is the last acceptable bigotry in the UK. People just saying that Travellers should be racially profiled (presumably upon sight??) and collectively denied service in order to Save Are Xmas Market.

    Here’s a useful test: ‘would this sound bad if I swapped out Travelers for Jews?’ Banning all Jewish-looking people from a Christmas Market? Everyone would know what that was.

    Also FYI, the comparison with the Nazis is deliberately evoked because the Nazis targeted ‘Gypsies’ (mostly Roma and Sinta peoples) as racial pollutants. They were first banned from service in shops, then stripped of German citizenship, and later targeted for extermination. More than 150,000 and possibly as many as a million were murdered.

15. Take this as you will, I have no dog in this race…got a friend who did the markets for decades said and travellers were the bane of their existence.

    They would steal frequently and/or demand free stuff or ridiculous deals. If refused, things would happen at night.

    This is from the 80s to 2000’s and only one person’s summary, so take it’s far from imprical data
