Why doesn’t Italy finish their buildings?

  1. I’m sure this meme wasn’t reposted a thousand times already

  2. Because nobody goes bombing them, we have plenty of time to keep them unfinished while spilling money out of the curious barbarians from our beloved ex provinces

  3. They finished the bridges, now they are in a worse state.

I’ll have to side with Luigi on this. Greek architecture last longer.

  4. Well, pretty sure you contributed to steal a lot of key elements (columns, etc…), Barry.

  5. Good question, because unlike the Greeks, the Italians actually have the money to fix them. It would take a lot more money than is actually required to fix those buildings, because of bribes for their local Mafia boss, embezzlement etc. but they would be able to pay for it.

They won’t do it though, because the Italians found out, that the more dilapidated their buildings look, the more money they get from clueless tourists. Because those ruins have a certain rustic charm to them. That’s why most of southern Italy looks like a archeological dig site.

The people in Greece do the same, but for tax reasons. As long as their house looks like a construction site, they won’t have to pay taxes for it.

This only works in PIGS countries though. Otherwise Belgian cities would be the top tourist destinations of europe, because they are the most messed up. Unfortunately for the Belgians, nobody cares about holes in concrete buildings and roads when it comes to Tourism.

  6. Have you seen their schools and hospitals? Because they’re even worse.
