  1. They cut before they looked over at neighbouring islands to see the Spanish and French doing the same.

  2. If they didn’t want to be colonised then they shouldn’t have allowed it /s

  3. Completely misinformed and ahistorical!

…We had *very* good reasons for it.

  4. the fact that people believe this drains my faith in humanity. Pick up a damn history book for the love of all things.

  5. Because americans would never do anything like that, haha!

  6. Did they have tea, spices or valuable materials?

If the answer is yes to any of these, then we had a valid reason.

We go for a mix of stuff, unlike the US and their oil. Smh

  7. Nope not in any way lol.

Manpower, and even local infrastructure was useful to the British. We never would’ve gotten as far as we got, for as long as we did, by just killing everyone we met and burning everything down.

Plus there are lots of records of people declaring war upon us, whereas we were seeking more diplomatic relationships, for example when the Prince of the Zulus declared war on us.

Also seems weird to pick on the British empire for this. This could be better applied to empires like the Mongolian empire or the Huns who were far more renowned for their plundering.

Or alternatively viking raids, although that doesn’t really fit with the colonising narrative I suppose.

Edit: And no reason? Hmm… Ah yes… I’m sure we never benefited from our expansion. We just wasted our time, resources, and manpower for the sake of it.

I know this is a meme and not to be taken seriously, but… Come on dude.

  8. this post is so wrong. why is that villager being attacked? it looks just like an average british adult

  9. We typically just followed where the dutch flags already were.

  10. Most people think Britain rocked up somewhere and took it over by force. Most of the time however they just bought it.
