  21. How would he get a judgement if a death penalty when the recommended sentence doesn’t have the death penalty attached to it?

    There is a sentencing guide and it used to be mandatory but since Booker 2005 it’s just a recommended sentencing guidelines but there is still room for excessive punishment, and if Hunter’s last name wasn’t Biden he would have plead those charges to almost nothing

  22. It’s quite understandable that Biden pardoned him. Hunter would have been prosecuted up the wazoo, and then sentenced to some extreme term.

    If he would get away with it – and history shows he could – Trump would gladly have another inmate ‘tie up loose ends’ or have an Epstein ending up his sleeve. At this point, there’s no rule of law in the US anymore. The country is lost and values or honor mean nothing. It’s just grifting and revenge.

  26. Well we know he’s going to try to execute quite a few people. It’s not a feeling or paranoia, he’s outright said it. No one should pretend to be surprised when it rolls out.

    So the question is who. He’ll likely target the Bidens and Obamas, as well as Harris. Not so sure about the Clintons, but perhaps if he can’t offer up anyone else. He’s got it in his head he needs to set an example. How removed the main person they had in custody or a “justification”. Guessing a lot of others will be out of country in January. Might round up some well known journalists. To be seen if he can pull off the actual executions, but he’ll certainly go for arrests. How far it goes depends on us mostly. I mean not really and it’s totally unfair bullshit, but here we are.

  29. Rachel Maddow began her program Monday (12/2) with a history of what happened when Joseph McCarthy and his cronies drove a Democratic senator out of office using the arrest of the senator’s son as a cudgel. His suicide tipped the Senate to Republican control.

    The same story was a big part of her podcast series, *Ultra.* Until I listened to that podcast I had no idea how close the US was to electing McCarthy as a fascist president.
