My girlfriend is missing Spain. Here is a Guiri’s attempt and a Tortilla de Patatas

  1. Not bad man! As one guiri to another, it looks like maybe too much potato and not enough egg. I also try to cut my potatoes smaller so it all mixes well.

Learning to make a tortilla is an important step in Spanishifying oneself, so kudos.

  2. It actually doesn’t look half bad! Congratulations!

Pro tip I got from a real live Spanish señora who makes the best tortillas (according to me): mush up the potatoes a little bit with a fork when you mix it with the eggs. That way you dont get the big chunks and it comes out “mas jugosa”.

  3. That looks awesome. Now we need a pic when you take a portion off of it. Is it too dry, too runny? But yeah, my mouth is watering.

  4. Not bad for a guiri, not bad at all. Put off your socks and you can apply to become a Spanish national!

  5. A pretty solid try!

Por cierto, me encanta: Post normalillo, 20-40 upvotes. Una tortilla y todos perdemos el culo a upvotear hahaha!

  6. So I just watched a video and this lady used two cups of oil to fry them in but they didn’t look deep fried?

Still mushy a bit and I was wondering if you can skip that step so to cut down on oil and just pan fry them?

Or does that change the flavor?

  7. Maybe is too much done I like it that melts the inside idk if I’m explaining but if it’s too much it gets thick. Im Spanish so sorry if explain badly

  8. That’s awesome!

    But if u didn’t know…

    There is a discussion of:

    Omelette WITH onion
    Or
    Omelette WITHOUT onion.
    What do u prefer?

  9. Whenever my wife misses Spain, I make her a tortilla, too!

I also keep the house stocked with Estrella Galicia and Manchego.
