“Elon Musk’s commission is a plot to destroy our Social Security by giving it to Wall Street executives—so that you get nothing and they get everything,” warned one advocate.

  1. I mean, that’s been the GOP wet dream for forever now…so, what’s different?

  2. I just watched Kingsman for first time last night. I imagine Elon to be just like Samuel L Jackson’s character. Even down to the microchips in their heads.

  3. Cannot say how truly glad I am that millions of Americans in a blissful willful ignorance stupor chose to vote against their own self interests. And, of course, the self interests of the rest of us.

    (/s of course)

  4. Honestly now that the future is so turbulent… as a millennial knowing this is just another tax with no benefit. Can I just get that money back?

Thanks Elon! Obviously nobody wants socialism, they hated “Obamacare”. /s

  5. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah characterized Social Security … as a “tax plan” insidiously disguised as a retirement plan and condemned the Social Security Act of 1935 as one of many “deceptive sales techniques the U.S. government has used on the American people.”

Social Security Works (SSW), a progressive advocacy group, said Tuesday that by amplifying Lee’s thread to his hundreds of millions of followers, Musk “just declared war on Social Security.”

  6. Biggest class action law suit to ever be filed. If they take MY money and it goes anywhere other than social security or back to my pocket it would be the US population vs us government

  7. Is Elon Musk just an AI created by the deep state? Many have wondered.

  8. The media all acting like this is all a surprise and they are the first to figure it out. Lol.

  9. US americans, are you going to take it, or are you going to do something about this oligarch sack of shit?
If you need inspiration, look at 18th century france. They had some ideas about the cake eaters.

  10. This needs to be reiterated: The Republicans want to kill Social Security not because they are cruel bastards (although they most certainly are), they want to end the program because they are paying exactly the same for each employee as the worker pays.

People like to say “that’s our money! Let me invest it myself!” but half of it was paid by the employer. They don’t want you to have that half.

The current Social Security and Medicare tax rates are 6.2% and 1.45% for a total of 7.65% of each employee’s pay. The employer by law must match the employee contribution. No more – no less.

Killing off that program would be an astonishing windfall, worth many billions of dollars to people like Musk and Bezos and Uihlein and Murdoch and Mercer and Trump.

They will surely kill it off once they get the chance, and MAGA chuds will cheer …

  11. I guess because people are young, news like this gets zero attention. Well let me tell all you youngsters out there, life goes by in a blink and you will likely need that safety net very much . What were you all thinking, voting for this? It’s like punching yourself in the head.

  12. This is literally what libertarians and conservatives wanted to do under the George W. Bush administration 20 years ago.

  13. Mee maw and Pee paw are moving in with you red hats, and they’re not bringing a check with them.

  14. Enshittification isn’t just something that happens to websites and businesses. Its happening to voters too. Used to be that Social Security was the “third rail of American Politics.” Touch it, and you die. American voters used to punish attempts at taking away some of their most basic hard won rights.

Now, most of the population gormlessly cheers it on because they’ve gorged themselves on a diet of bigotry, hatred, and ignorance.

Though I do suspect there’s also a generational quality to it. For decades the Boomers have voted for politicians who have basically weaponized generational differences. Everything that their generation took for granted has continued for them, but was taken from their children and grandchildren. Reasonably funded public education. College education. Fair labor practices and unions. The ability to purchase housing. Retirement benefits. And its not a shock to me that they’re now coming for SS as well. No doubt the policy will be one that protects current seniors, while killing access for future generations. An entire political generation of “fuck you, got mine” once again cheering it on.

Meanwhile you’ve got Gen Z and Millennial men enthusiastically voting for the Republicans because they’ve been feeding themselves a rich diet of misogyny and see their gender “under attack” because women aren’t settling for abuse and inequality, and they can’t get their wickers wet by being nasty assholes.

  15. “Richest man to ever live doesn’t see the need for social security.”

  16. Everyone should be worried having the world’s richest man digging through social programs deciding who doesn’t get or deserve government benefits anymore. Literally ‘let them eat cake’.

  17. Excerpt:

”**If billionaires like Elon Musk paid into Social Security at the same rate as the rest of us on all of their income, we could expand benefits for everyone and pay them in full forever.**”

“This is a declaration of war against seniors, people with disabilities, and the American public,” Lawson said. “The Republicans are coming for your Social Security, which [they call](https://tracking.us.nylas.com/l/1de107df0a52490d8ff1a7b3e1f478e5/5/790bc2e33b0d3e81b9f07c1d9c7356e44fd2360121e2267a3839607652ae3bb8?cache_buster=1733237508) a ‘nightmare.’ Elon Musk’s commission is a plot to destroy our Social Security by giving it to Wall Street executives—so that you get nothing and they get everything.”

“We’ve seen this play again and again,” he added. “When Republicans destroyed defined-benefit pension plans, they claimed that the market would be able to create amazing returns for everybody. Instead, workers got pennies, while Wall Street managers got billions. That is always the plan. We will defeat this Republican effort to steal our earned benefits. The money is ours, Mike Lee, Elon Musk, and Donald Trump. You’re not going to get a penny of it.”

  18. Yes this has been the whole point the whole time. It’s 2 trillion dollars that bankers can’t get a cut of. Same thing with Medicare. And Medicaid. And the department of education. It’s all this money that bankers aren’t getting a cut of. And then they peddle lies so poor people vote against their best interests. It’s really evil if you think about it for more than a few seconds.

  19. They’re coming for the TSP fund as well (federal employee retirement accounts) – I bet they get those first and then pivot to SS. It’s sad because the general public won’t care for the plight of the fed worker.

  20. The main goal of Republicans has been transferring wealth from the working and middle classes to the rich for decades, but people keep voting for them.

  21. Seeing Elon getting political power is scary, this man will take away everything we have for himself and his delusional dreams

  22. How is Elon the world richest man when Warren Buffett is sitting on over 325 billion in cash? Elon doesn’t even have that type of cash on hand.

  23. No shit. We warned you voting for Trump meant attacks on SS.

My aunt and uncle are Trumpers and voted to have the money they rely on slashed by a Putin-loving foreign oligarch.

  24. Guys, we don’t have to accept this. Organize and agitate.

  25. Good! Give the morons what they voted for. Social security recipients overwhelmingly voted for Trump. Time to reap motherfuckers.

  26. That rundown on social security is so disingenuous.

So your money goes into an account and when you retire you get your money back + an inflation adjustment. It works exactly how it was intended to work. The federal government can run a deficit whether or not that specific money is spent or not is irrelevant.

The solution seems to be to allow people to invest in the stock market with their social security money. This seems like a cash grab for corporations, also stock markets crash, and people would literally lose their lifeline if this happened. It’s much more sensible to just leave the whole program as is.

  27. Taking away social security is a mass murder plot. Lets not mince words. Millions take social security payments. Over 70 million. Those are mostly retired folks. Grannies. Grampas. They are all going to literally die if social security is stolen and given to the billionares.

So, lets do some math. It takes the deaths of thousands of people to make one billionare. So, the inverse should be true. it would take the death and redistribution of wealth of a single billionare to ensure that thousands of people live.

If you want the frontlines of the battle to move away from taking the lives of your grandma and grandpa, it needs to move towards taking the lives of billionaires. Where is a good start? 100% death taxes. Payable in the ownership of stocks, real estate, and other assets they own. This is like garlic to these vampires. You know what is like silver? Prevent the transfer of US bonds from one individual or corporation to another. You know what is like sunlight? destroying the patent office. Declaring corporate personhood to be a lie. Declaring the legal liability of majority shareholders for corporate misdeeds. You know what is like well.. fire? A stake. To burn things at. Like the property titles of homes that the bankers and wallstreet vampires dont actually live in.

  28. We need another Teddy Roosevelt to bust up trumps oligarchy before it’s too late.

  29. I just don’t understand how you could have that much money and still want to take more from those who need it most.
