    After January I expect that sub to be *jumping* with fat, well-fed leopards.

    If voters are surprised by any of this news, then they were uninformed voters. They can blame the media all they like, but at the end of the day we are all responsible for our own votes.

    America is getting the government it deserves, as per the rules of Democracy. It might very well be the last democratically elected US government in our lifetime.

    The stock market is a ponzi scheme, and the rich stand to gain EVERYTHING.

    Means less money for older people to buy things…then stores suffer when goods sit longer on the shelves…then hospitals get crowded because people can’t afford to take care of small health issues, so they become big ones…sicker people can’t work which decreases productivity…..etc.

    You don’t just end up gutting SS and Medicare, you end up gutting the whole US economy.

Something I NEVER, EVER see mentioned is that employers have to match FICA contributions made by their employees, so for every $1000 taken out of employee paychecks another $1000 has to be paid out by the employer, and I am 99.99% sure they consider that to be wasted profit that should be used to enhance executive wealth via stock buybacks.

    ADD: So for every $1 million in payroll, $76,500 is deducted from employee paychecks for FICA taxes, and the company has to pay a matching FICA contribution of $76,500

    I don’t understand, at all, why he would care to destroy the social security program.

    It disgusts me to invoke “America first” rhetoric, but why are we letting some rich foreigner barge in and try to tell us how to run our country? Especially when this program’s existence means literally nothing to him.

  24. How else would one completely destroy the middle class? The like of Musk and Trump want to rule not govern. The warnings were out in the open and the people still chose to be ruled. The price of eggs, milk, and bacon won’t mean shit when there are tens of thousands of elderly starving in the street.

    These guys are dangerous, but not nearly as dangerous as an uneducated electorate that handed them the keys to completely fuck the world over.

  26. There’s nothing to gut. They’re not an expense. They’re a fund, a pool of cash coming in and going out.

    All you can do is tweak the numbers: higher percent taken from wages or lower amount paid out. That’s it. There’s nothing else there to do.

    Well, unless they just plan to take the money…

    The realistic thing is these are wage based systems, so their fault is they have to keep up with inflation. If wages don’t keep up, they don’t keep up. So ideally you push up wages. Raise minimum wage and feed in more tax dollars, including social security and medicare. Everyone wins. Unfortunately, Republicans don’t think that way. Neither does Elon or Donald. But Kamala did. She was planning to bump up the minimum wage, well, not enough, but it was a start at $15/hr national. That would have pushed up consumer buying power, consumer purchasing, bolster the economy, and feed more taxes into these systems.

    But instead we’ve got Elon and Donald, both seemingly eyeing a pile of sitting cash and wanting to just grab it all. It’s akin to a corrupt company owner stealing everyone’s pensions.

    We’ll see how this plays out.

  30. But why… ? For a European it’s baffling that a government would willingly deprive its citizens of (what we think of as ) basic rights. What is the reasoning behind this ? Apart from anything else, who the hell does Musk think he is ? His knowledge about these matters is probably nil and he’s not even a US citizen. Easy to cut benefits when you yourself are filthy rich. Why do the rich always want to fuck over people who have to scrape by ? It’s as inhuman as it is unbelievable!

  31. Musk wants for there to be no safety nets for anyone. He wants to keep workers beholden to corporate overlords until the day they die.

    What really irritates me is that I truly can’t fathom why. The bloke will die one day, it’s a fate that no amount of money will save him from. He can delay it sure, but death will eventually get him. And then what? You fucked over human civilization just because you wanted to feel powerful for however many years you were alive? For who is he even going to leave anything behind for? From what the public knows, all of his kids hate him. One of his own kids doesn’t even want to be associated with him.

    No amount of money will ever buy him love and his own child has proved that. His multiple divorces have proved that.

    I get wanting to leave all your power and money to your heir/kid when you die but even that doesn’t currently seem to be an option for Elon (maybe that’s why he thinks he should father an endless amount of children. Maybe he hopes that eventually he can bully or abuse one spawn into liking him)

    So, what even is the point for Elon?

  33. It won’t affect him or really anybody in his sphere at all. For us? We will have to watch our grandparents and parents struggle to make ends meet. My Trump voting gma honestly deserves this but she would be destitute without Medicare and Social Security (and the house they bought for like 19,000 in 1964). I don’t understand how he got all these people to vote completely against their interests. This is a master class in con artistry by Trump I have to hand it to him. Never have I seen so many people swindled and sidetracked by utter bullshit to go and vote against their own interests like this. No matter what group of people you look at unless it’s rich white male billionaires everybody is getting fucked.
