If we expel the Russian ambassador, then that effectively stops all government communication between our nations. If an Irish citizen was in distress within Russia, with a medical emergency or other crisis, then what diplomatic channel would be used to help him? The purpose of diplomatic relations is to ensure stable political, economic, military, cultural, and personal relations between nations. It is not in anyone’s interest to cut off diplomatic contacts.
Table a motion to have Ukraine join the EU.
Fianna Fáil were allowing the US military the use of Shannon Airport for their illegal invasions in the middle East, as well as the use of the airport to support their illegal campaign of rendition and transport to torture camps. There wasn’t a sniff of expelling ambassadors back then, either.
So this is kind of ironic. Almost as if this isn’t to do with morality or the validity of the casus belli Russia claims.
