TBF we do some great things in town with Seasonal lights, and things like Beckett and the Convention Centre. If you saw it in another European City you’d be instagramming it as a matter of course, but sometimes we forget how nice our own Capital is at times.
OK not gonna lie, the shading to make the GPO looking like a wrapped package is actually really impressive.
One of the (very few) benefits to working in Arnotts for a Christmas job a while ago was getting to walk by it every night to get my bus back home.
Is it me or had this stuff *really* improved in Dublin in recent years? Same with the lights show up in Marlay Park which was great (would recommend in general, but seriously to those with young kids – I can’t imagine how cool that would have been at a young age) etc etc.
Using the same stuff topically (light the opposing countries colours on the Spire for international sports etc etc) would also be a huge benefit. One of my bigger complaints about Dublin is that it’s so incredibly grey and a lot of the time, flat out ugly. This is the exact type of thing that transforms it, at night at least, with minimal effort (the same for the ‘pencil top’ bollards I have seen a few of lately in the day time) at extremely little cost nor any commitment to anything permanent, so more of the same please!
These sorts of displays should be a year round thing (obviously change the theme depending on the time of year)
Oh boy, the “War on Christmas” people are mad at this.
The Red Ring lights on O’connell street, street lamps are awful though , prob cost a million quid into some fffg TD’s sons design company
I remember last year they had speakers as well and put on little filmed segments on the GPO with dialogue that was all cosy and old timey. I don’t know if they have that this year but it’s lovely to see the lights back. Puts me in a right festive mood.
And the Car Park lobby thought the bus gate would be a terrible for Christmas shoppers

I’ve really enjoyed the holiday lights this year
