Having to mitigate bad Westminster policies again.
Excellent news. It’s an unfair law
The SNP like to promise a lot, we shall see if they actually deliver on this.
Any chance I could have my cancer treatment in less than at year too?
That is great.
But why have they waited this long?
What is being cut to fund it?
Yeah, we have one of if not the lowest birth rate in all of Europe which puts us up there world wide. We are rapidly barrelling toward a demographic crisis with a rapidly ageing population. Whole world outwith Africa is in this situation now but it is unusually bad in Scotland. Unless something changes soon many of the communities in Scotland will disappear in the next 20 years.
There are basically two ways a government can fix that issue. Immigration, which is a politically suicidal suggestion at the moment. Or put policies in place that get’s the birth rate up.
If I were the Scottish government I would strongly consider scrapping free university tuition and pouring that resource in early childcare. It is objectively less regressive to invest that funding in nursery care and making that free and widely available than university education. I wouldn’t want high fees and I think the government should loan you the money but I do think that money could be better spent elsewhere.
Yes all industrial countries are having a downturn but our is also hugely exacerbated by the housing crisis. Even those who can afford to cloth and feed 4 kids can’t afford to house them in cities in Scotland unless they are quite well off.
Wasn’t this brought in because people on social media were complaining that some families were just constantly having babies and living off social security payments ???
Mental health and housing. I don’t like the 2 child cap, but I’d want the money to go to mental health and housing instead.
Also capital spending on infrastructure.
I’m reading elsewhere that they’re giving out tax cuts. Such a tory move when there’s stuff desperately needing funded.
Excellent. More money the government doesn’t have going to people with children they can’t afford.
Delayed by 2 years with the hope they can use this as a big vote winner come 2026. But they are set to lose in 2026 and thus this policy will never come to fruition. Just more money wasted in “developing the systems” that will never be utilised.
I noticed councils have been left hanging yet again.
Yes they’ve been allowed to raise council tax next year, but that only accounts for 20% of their budgets on average.
You will also end up with the inevitability of party politics coming into effect with SNP led councils voting to raise council tax by lower than required amounts whilst the main party attack councils who aren’t SNP led for asking people worse off” when they’re inevitably forced to raise council tax by 8-10% etc.
Ah great, so working people will get taxed more to give away to other people who had kids knowing the rules in place.
If people wonder why reform start doing well it’s cause of stupid stunts like this.
We now have two parties trying to out do themselves in terms of giveaway and an economy in the hole.
Thank fuck. Genuinely one of the worst, most pointless and cruellest policies.
>Finance Secretary Shona Robison has told the Scottish Parliament she intends to “develop the systems necessary to effectively scrap the impact of the two-child cap in 2026”.
…yeah, anyone getting excited about this should probably rein it in and prepare for disappointment instead.
Restart the benefits baby factories
Brilliant, pop out as many kids as you want and the rest of us will pay for it. I have family members who’ll love this!
Budget doesn’t seem that bad? Thought from the Press before it was going to be much worse in terms of cuts and tax rises. Should be interesting to see how this all pans out.
Well done to the next Government who will actually be the ones abolishing it. This government won’t be around when this happens.
Why are people so happy about this? Is it crazy to think that people who need benefits to get by shouldn’t be having 3+ children?
NHS in shambles, mental health services nonexistent, and housing costs skyrocketing. Not sure this is the best place for money to go.
I take it all the thick c***s moaning about this are failing to understand that a significant proportion of these kids will grow up to work and pay the taxes which will fund state pension in future years.
The child benefit cap is one of the few austerity things that I supported. I hope they don’t scrap it entirely. Maybe introduce a sliding scale where each child after 2 gets a lower amount.
