Queen Elizabeth II, who is on the throne for 68 years and 309 days at this moment, has outlasted the longest-reigning occupant of the Roman imperial throne, Constantine VIII (30 III 962 – 11 XI 1028), whose tenure went on for 66 years and 226 days.

  1. Its actually 69 years 8 months and 23 days ([https://www.britroyals.com/reigned.asp](https://www.britroyals.com/reigned.asp)) since she ascended the throne. She will be 98 by the time she beats Louis XIVs record but as her mum made it to 101 I think she has a good chance.

Louis XIV also had a bit of a head start as he became king age 4 while Elizabeth didn’t until she was 26.
