I genuinely wonder if this is related to the amount of tear gas (and god knows what other gas) Brit soldiers used when they were repressing the Irish. It would be very interesting to see this broken down by date of Birth and nationality/community.
I first found this a little puzzling as I when I lived over there I got the impression that NI had a very rural population but having just looked it up 65% of the population live in urban areas, there are also less trees in NI, only 8% is wooded compared to 13% in England, more people seemed to smoke as well but that was probably just the people I knew, decent cheap fags were definitely easier to get hold of over there than in England, maybe these are all contributors factors? I personally thought there was a lot less air pollution
