Ever since moving here, I've had my local colleagues mention this in passing a few times and tell me to avoid driving at night on holiday or the day before and do my best to take public transportations for this reason. I really had hoped this would have changed in the last decades. In practice, since we've moved to a suburb with complicated connections at night, this means we tend to meet friends on Friday and Saturday afternoon instead of evening. Christmas even, we stay the night at the grandparents, etc… to avoid becoming a statistic.

Does anyone know why drinking and driving is socially acceptable?

  1. It’s not socially acceptable

People still do it though, just like they do all over the world

It all comes down to selfishness and the “I’m more important than you” mentality that seems to have worsened in recent years
