In election shock, Romanian far-right NATO critic set to contest presidential run-off • FRANCE 24

A hard-right critic of NATO who has praised Russia is set to face a centre-right opposition leader in a presidential election run-off in Romania that could undermine its pro-Western stance after a shock outcome in the first-round vote. The outcome was a huge shock as pre-election opinion polls had made Social Democrat Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu the frontrunner. The candidate of the centre-right Liberals, Ciolacu’s coalition partners, also failed to secure a place in the election run-off, which will be on Dec. 8.   1. Relax, Georgescu does not represent a party, does not have a majority, and cannot make decisions in parliament, if he is president.

  2. It's about poverty, lack of education and ticktok propaganda. What I've heard from the people that voted him was that they are fed up by the corruption of the political class, by the rising prices, by the second class member status Ro has in the EU and were attracted by the ultra nationalist ideas this dude spins . Other than these topics, none are relevant. Ukr issue is not really a big issue – you're just trying to rationalize where there is no reason. Some voted for him not even knowing who he is. Just because they wanted to be heard and slap the authorities with their vote….

  6. Romanians are second-hand Europeans, they are rejected from Schengen. Romanians have enough problems in their own country and for this reason should take care of their country first, after that to take care of their neighbour.

  19. Romanian here. There’s a lot of misinformation circulating about this. I strongly encourage everyone to research thoroughly before believing claims that this potential president is far-right, pro-Putin, extremist, or wants to isolate Romania—these are just some of the many false narratives being spread by the press. It’s better to listen to what he actually says rather than rely solely on what is said about him. As always, the media has its own agendas and often manipulates narratives to shape public opinion. Don’t take everything at face value—dig deeper to form an informed perspective.
