  2. Canada has similar laws. I’m always surprised when I travel to Europe that there’s so many people smoking on patios. Here it’s something like 25 feet from the door that you’re allowed to smoke.

  8. That’s one of the things I like about Japan. Outdoors is public space so the government regulates it. No smoking, except in designated areas. Inside private property, the owners can decide. Some bars and restaurants allow smoking, hotels have smoking rooms. The result is that there are very few butts on the ground. Plus, you can sit at a bar and have a smoke with your drink, which is one of things I miss since my country banned smoking in all indoor places except private homes but allows it outside.

  16. sometimes you see americans say the EU is authoritarian, and you think “that’s crazy, they are exagerrating” and then you see some dumbass politicians propose a law to ban people from smoking *outside*.

    so you can’t smoke in pubs or bars or other businesses, and with this proposal you also wouldn’t be able to smoke outside, not even vaping outside. fucking crazy frankly.

  17. I remember going to a trade show in Madrid after the indoor smoking ban, you wouldn’t have thought there was a smoking ban, it was a huge hall and the air was thick with it, zero fucks given.

  28. Considering all the health risks associated with smoking, along with the terrible effects like bad odor, yellowing teeth, and the significant expense—especially in today’s challenging economic climate—it’s baffling that people still choose to smoke cigarettes. It just seems irrational.
