Keir Starmer starts again: PM pleads with Brits to judge him on higher living standards, lower NHS waits and more police in ‘reset’ speech… but NO target on cutting immigration and has he watered down Net Zero vow?

If we want higher living standards we need to stop trying to be a charity to the whole world and fix up our own house first.
well reform will be in next parliament then
Don’t matter who is in thier all incapable of getting the job done reform is just a business masquerading as a political parties and theynother two are just so busy fighting ecahother to actually do anything.
Ahh the Daily Mail, owned by French millionaires who live in Monaco, registered in Bermuda, pays zero tax, a true British paper.
Are we going to ask China and India for our jobs back, the top 1% will be unhappy with that.
How many relaunches has this guy had? It’s like performance art at this point
Man such bad Deja vu… so its basically grow the economy, stop the boats, bring down NHS waiting lists, halve inflation and reduce debt… its basically just Rishi Sunaks “pledges” rehashed under a red banner? It didn’t work out very well for him. Before that it was the famous ‘EdStone’ that miliband had inscribed with 6 similarly vague ‘pledges’.
The problem with all these pledges/milestones/ commitments etc. is that it’s all very well saying you’ll achieve these things, but without any detail on how it’s just pointless talk. I’d rather he focused his energy on actually trying to make meaningful changes rather than fob us off with this. The whole thing stinks of desperation and a lack of ideas – which is frankly terrifying when labour are only a few months into a 5 year term and have had 14 years to plan for this moment.
It’s a bold strategy, Cotton – let’s see if it pays off
Oh ffs. So the pledged before the election to judge him on…in the bin. The pledges to judge him on when ge won the election…in the bin. Now a new set of pledges
The police one seems more like redistribution of existing force members with some new pcso highers. The more things change the more they stay the same. 14 years of tory lies and mismanagement leads to 5 years of Labour lies and mismanagement…..the UK will forever be a second world country with a first world budget led by donkies
When are people going to realise that the rag called the Daily Mail is designed to get you worked up about shit that in any other walk of life, you wouldn’t give a toss about.
The headline should be ‘The Prime Minister gave a speech’.
Daily mail… typical of them but Starmer in the speech did make a clear commitment to immigration. He promised to lower legal and illegal immigration because that is what working people want. That is what he said. Just because he isn’t setting a number target doesn’t mean it isn’t his other priorities. The reason is because the tories set a target on immigration and they always fail…
Imo my take on this is…
Tories left a complete mess.
Labour come into power and have had to make some difficult choices especially with the countries finances. Short term pain for long term success.
Right wing Media and social media being what it is stir shit up and go on the attack. Not surprising and expected and the left would do the same.
Labour is trying to change the narrative but even that gets spun negatively.
My hope is they are making the right decisions not the popular decisions. It feels like that’s the approach theyve taken and hope in 3-4 years time things improve and people eventually see the logic of the decision making now.
They have to weather the shit right now. The public and media and back seat drivers and that’s just the way it is and in today’s world we want and expect instant change and success but that isn’t the reality of how things work. People lack wider views.
If by the next election things haven’t improved then they’ll suffer in the elections but if they’ve done what’s best long term then it’ll be easy to campaign on the improvements
Britain keeps struggling because all sides are sharks ready to burn and paint every decision in bed light and cause constant restarts. There’s so much hate.
The only way we ultimately get better is to work together not against each other.
And those that think reform know the answer then I feel sorry for you. You’ve just fallen for the trick that’s been used for centuries.
Division and fear but they would come into power and be far worse and create further division and hate which again does not lead to success.
First six months have been fine. Nothing amazing, but compared to the last 14 years, it’s a break.
I’m definitely not sick, of never having to hear the Tories bang on about culture wars and other silly issues, to distract for the fucking mess they have got the country in.
Oh, and fuck you Daily Mail you shitrag
Took 5 hours to see an out of hours GP
I’m a tad puzzled what people actually want when they talk about “cutting immigration”. Like what immigration and what effect do they want?
Brexit put the brakes on simple EU immigration – arguably the one most people would be happy with, bizarrely.
We then give out visas for either: skills we require, visitors or students. Former are people our economy needs, latter put money into our economy (with loads overstaying, same with visitors).
Illegal immigration is just that – illegal. Brexit has, again, hampered our chances of at least curtailing that. Once people are here and have been found, if they won’t give details of where they are from, what do you do with them?
Asylum / Refugees (15-18% of immigrants) – take an incredibly long time to process. If they are legit, they should be allowed to stay. If they’re not, what do you do with them? What about special allowances like Ukrainians?
Riots,
Political prisoners,
Erosion of our ability to say we don’t agree,
Releasing criminals,
Death of a political prisoner,
Making examples of non violent protestors, (I have no issue with anyone who commits violence being banged up),
2 tier CJ System,
Knife Crime,
Net Migration,
Farmers IHT,
Vat’ing SEN kids private education ,
Purple haired MP Asleep in the common,
Fraud by a cabinet member,
Lying Chancellor ,
Increasing NI,
Triggering job cuts,
No one with business experience on the front bench,
Anti semitism rife,
300bln pledged without parliamentary authority.
Now we have a relaunch.
It’s like they want Reform to win the next election.
And it’s only been 5 months.
🤦♂️
Imagine what they can do with a whole parliament.

You can’t cut immigration and make higher living standards at the same time, these are mutually exclusive
I swear the Daily Mail were screaming at Labour like a week ago because they weren’t budging on Net Zero policy? The whole car plant closing jazz that was already decided about a year ago?
It’s just a joke at thi point, the media in the country that is.
But up and cut immigration.
It’s the silver bullet to showing them you’re serious and instantly gets the biggest talking points off the board.
Begin military buildup and promises to expand border protections, and increase cooperation with france to stop channel crossings.
Sate the people most rabidly opposing you, because it’s the one point they’re arguably most correct on.
Cutting migration and growth are mutually exclusive.net zero probably also although a green industrial revolution wouldn’t be.
Who would have thought outsourcing so much industry to other countries would be catastrophic in the long run. Short term gains have provided the working class with long term suffering.
