You’ve been Mayor for 8 years. Care to discuss how this happened under your watch?
Put up another poster Mr Khan, that’ll fix it.
Hell, as a stocky white guy I don’t feel safe using public transport in some areas and times – there needs to be action taken for sure.
Controversial stuff
How about actually stopping and prosecuting criminals who harness and abuse people in public? Everyone has issues with dickheads in public.. you’ve been the mayor for 8 years and supported a violent criminal over the police defending himself..
Women and minorities should be protected wherever they go. Don’t blame Khan for that
I would love to know what Khan actually means when he says “minority communities across London”.
Aren’t all communities in London minority communities?
In Japan they have Women and Elderly only sections on the train. Would be interested to see that trialed here
Majorities in the other hand…
Everyone should be able to feel safe using public transport.
It’s so maddeningly American brained. Completely divorced from the racial and nationality make up of the city he governs
I don’t think I’ve ever had any problems on London’s public transport from a safety perspective. Ever.
That said, ever since I just started cycling everywhere I basically never get respiratory infections, so there’s that.
Isn’t this already the case? When a woman blocked a train door, some scumbag attacked me because he thought I was her husband, not her for causing the tiny delay to his life that most people wouldn’t even notice.
And what about us white guys? Not worth considering? Thanks, Sadik. Doing even less for us 👍 Not even worth a cheap soundbite these days…. (Not that he was going to do anything for women and minorities either lol. Nobody has ever confused him with a man of action.)

Free bus rides ladies!
>He said: ‘For example, our bus drivers know if a woman stops a bus at a bus stop and she has not got an Oyster card or money to pay for the fare. Our bus driver will let that person on even without a fare if there is concern about that person’s safety. So we are making sure our bus drivers are properly trained to be sensitive and tuned in to the concerns women have.
Schemes like this are great until they get abused.
Hate crime has been pretty low, aside of a huge spike last year which I assume is due to the Middle East situation. Violence against the person which is the offence with the highest volume (and doesn’t discriminate between men and women) has been decreasing in the last year, sexual offences are unfortunately increasing, BUT they are 1/10 of violence against the person offences and are considerably low in the chart.
Police in each station
Shout out to the guy who was straight jorkin’ it in front of me on the Met Line on the four seaters.
Yes, I moved.
No, no one said anything.
It was surreal.
I feel like I’m in bizarro land when I read this.
I’m a bloke and I don’t feel safe on public transport. I took it when I was 20 and poor because I had no choice. As an older adult there is no way that I’m taking a night bus wearing a nice outfit, too many incidents where I’ve just gotten lucky with the local bellends, an Uber is better than having someone decide they want my stuff.
The way to solve this would be to have more BTP officers or conductors or similar. The fact that bus drivers sit in a little plastic box for security reasons and this is just tolerated (I don’t think this was normal pre-covid) is embarassing.
The idea that you can just put up posters that say “hey bro don’t grope man” and ferals are going to suddenly decide to be normal people is the most out of touch thing ever. You may as well put a sign up saying “hi mate don’t steal phones”.
Like, yes of course. But I wasn’t aware there was a massive discrepancy. The issue of women feeling safe I can understand, but are white men really much safer than non-white men?
I’m a white man and granted it’s rare that I’ve felt unsafe on public transport, beyond taking precautions like not sitting at the upstairs rear of a night bus or avoiding carriages that look like they have dodgy characters in them, but on the occasions I _have_ felt unsafe, it’s rarely been because of older white men, it’s because of younger, often non-white men.
And one of the greatest latent fears I think most people have on public transport is the threat of terrorism, where non-white men have a bit of form in the last two decades.
All seems a bit divisive if you ask me.
It’s a bit funny how if this post was just titled “women should be able to feel safe using public transport” all the fuck off comments about how “white men need to feel safe too!” would not exist lol.
No one saying that you don’t need to feel safe, but you’re the least likely to experience some sort of sexual assault or hate crime ffs.
It’s like the word “minorities” brings something out in people in some subs
Another day, another photoshoot.
Everyone should feel safe. The ones most at risk should BE safe.
I do feel safe. I’m more concerned at how the bus doesn’t turn up on time and there are always delays. Sort it out!
…says the Mayor that heads the Mayors Office for Policing and Crime which literally sets the agenda and budget for London policing…currently facing a £450 million budgeting shortfall because he won’t adequately fund them.
This man is an arse. The only thing he hates more than crime is the police. He demonstrated a clear bias over the shooting of Chris Kaba and treated NX121 with utter contempt. He takes absolutely no responsibility for the role he has played in rising crime in London or his part in the extensive failings in the operational effectiveness of the Metropolitan Police. When Cressida Dick went he should have too.

I would like to know where he is taking his data, ’cause the MET data on crime tell a pretty different story: [https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/metropolitan.police.service/viz/MonthlyCrimeDataNewCats/Coversheet](https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/metropolitan.police.service/viz/MonthlyCrimeDataNewCats/Coversheet)

What is a ‘minority’ in London?
I think they do. Maybe just not at the same time.
