Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and US President-elect Donald Trump reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Cyprus and the US during a telephone discussion on Thursday.
Posting on X, Christodoulides described having an excellent discussion with Trump. “I congratulated him on his election victory and we expressed out shared commitment to continue enhancing the Cyprus-US strategic partnership,” the Cypriot President posted. “We will work together to further reinforce our relations for the benefit of our countries and the region.”
In a written statement, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the Cypriot government spokesperson, noted: “Special mention was also made to the wide ranging cooperation between the two countries and to the high level they have recently reached in areas such as defense and security, investments, economy, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid and crisis management in the region of the Eastern Mediterranean.”
The two leaders also discussed the worrying developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, with President Christodoulides emphasizing that Cyprus remains a close and reliable partner of the US in the efforts to promote peace, stability and development in the region, the government spokesperson also noted.
