“…we should check that landing gear just in case… oh wait, nevermind. Departure time is in 10 minutes. I’m not going to get yelled at by the director again.”
And now for a comment saying Biden does nothing for working class people
Trump will reverse this in a heart beat
Does anyone else fear this would just lead to mechanic issues being pushed off to be repaired later? I really don’t want to be on a plane that is falling apart mid flight just because the airline wants to save some dollars. A larger issue should be the whole “we overbooked your flight”. That shit is annoying, I fly 8 times a week and it happens at least 3-4 times a month.
Airlines will raise the price of all tickets to cover the costs of these proposed requirements. It probably won’t be much of an increase per ticket. but it definitely won’t be coming out of the CEO’s pay. These types of laws actually become a money maker for the corporations in the long run.
Later today, we’ll hear that Trump has picked an airline CEO to run Transportation.
PIRG, a consumer rights group, has a [summary of passenger airline rights](https://pirg.org/edfund/resources/new-airline-passenger-rights-explained-with-effective-dates/) that the Biden administration has implemented.
Let’s not be defeatist but hold the incoming administration accountable and don’t let them take credit for what the Biden admin has done.
Not sure if I agree with this – this is a safety disincentive.
I got 600€ when a Portugal (Funchal) to Boston flight delayed by 10 hours due to mechanical issue.
I got to Boston so late I missed ALL connecting flight options and spent night in the airport waiting for 6am next day. Could’ve spent $300 for 6 hours of hotel, but didn’t seem worth it.
If the rules make sense like the EU ones do, then it should be great.
The longer the flight time and the longer the delay the more the refund/credit.
I dont mind waiting if it’s a mechanical delay, just please fix the plane, no need to pay me.
Spent $200 extra dollars to get the afternoon flight.
Got delayed to the red eye arrival time anyway.
Yeah. I should have got my fucking money back.
The magas are going to hate this, they hate anything to do with common sense
I’m sure this will go over well. /s
Trump’s counter proposal is allowing the airlines to charge you a service fee for sitting on the plane while repairs are made.
In before airlines pull “ooopsies, we are now broke can I have a bail out please Mr. President?”
(Gives 10million bonus to all c-suite executives)
This is how it is in Europe and prices are still far lower than here.
it’s been a great 4 years of an administration trying to help us everyday americans, but just imagine all the fun we’re going to have with the next admin does the absolute opposite of that.
I mean, ok. But there are FAR FAR more important things going on in the world than this.
What if this results in airlines figuring out ways to dodge or bandaid mechanical maintenance so they they don’t have to pay travelers? And then people die.
I’m afraid they’ll start pressuring pilots to fly with suboptimal mechanical conditions just to save money short term.
Nice of him to propose something he knows will never happen years into his presidency. Nice shot of rat boy though.
Don’t worry, the poor airline executives won’t have to deal with all this ridicule from us peasants. We’ll just have to suck it up and thank our billionaire overlords for the privilege of air travel.
I appreciate the logic of this, but as a pilot, I would worry that airlines would have even more incentive than they already have to short-change maintenance. I can imagine a dispatcher pushing a pilot to depart with a questionable maintenance item unresolved.
Does this potentially provide contra-incentives to airlines to not report maintenance issues?
I don’t know about that well they should do it. I fear that that would result in them flying planes that are unsafe just to avoid to pay the delay fees kind of an unintended effect. I mean, you’ve got to imagine these guys just don’t care.
I wonder if “mechanical issue” will become “weather related issue” to save money.
Ah yes the companies providing $100 round trip tickets will definitely be fund providing double the price back if one leg is delayed 3 hours.
And magically, there was never another mechanical delay ever again.
Only “Technical Difficulties”.
excited to see years of defending airline profits instead of the consumer start with the new guy in a month
But Dems aren’t focusing on “tHe WoRkInG cLaSs”
In before “bro just slap some duct tape on it. Boss is gonna be pissed if we delay another flight.”
this is nice but you’ve got to wonder how long it’s going to take for airlines to just start flying with the mechanical issues instead of delaying to fix them and paying people for the delay.
The incoming administration is going to make travelers pay airlines for mechanical delays
Trump will reverse that. “Extra time on a plane for FREE?? Unheard of! Charge for that!”
Make weed legal!
