China warned the United States Friday to “cease meddling in Taiwan-related affairs” after the self-ruled island’s president Lai Ching-te said he was “confident” of deeper cooperation when president-elect Donald Trump takes office next month.
“The United States must adhere to the one-China principle… cease meddling in Taiwan-related affairs and interfering in China’s internal affairs, and stop supporting or condoning Taiwanese independence forces,” foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian told reporters at a regular press conference.
