Comparethemarket pulls meerkat ads from TV news after Ukraine invasion

  1. This feels slightly concerning.

We shouldn’t let this war become an excuse to blacklist everything even remotely Russian. The Russian people don’t support this conflict, they’ve made that clear by the number that took to protest it. This is solely Putin and his cronies responsibility.

We should be supporting the Russians to get a country that looks after them rather than lines the pockets of oligarchs.

  2. They were the weirdest ads as well. Well most ads in the UK are I guess, what does gocompare have to do with a fat opera bloke?

  3. Always found them incredibly annoying and don’t fathom why anyone would like them or find them funny, buy hey, to each his own.

What does genuinely confuse me is why things like Apu from the Simpsons is “racist” but this isn’t?

  4. > “The Comparethemarket meerkats are fictional characters,” said a spokesperson for the company

    Well, fuck me ragged.

  5. No one has any idea what they are marketing. Best worst advertising in the world

I’ve asked about 20 people do you know those meerkats

    “yes”

    Ok What are they advertising

    “no idea”

  6. So everything Russian is bad now?

Will we be taking a leaf out of Americas WW2 playbook and putting everyone in the UK with Russian ties into concentration camps?

  7. “People of the U.K, it’s time to take cover!” being said by a rabbit/hare in an accent looking into the camera before getting interrupted with “–from high energy bills,” just after a news report about Ukraine was maybe not the best timing ever to be fair.

  8. Does anyone realize they are also a gay couple with kids so thats nothing to do with Russian values.

  9. I have a Dachshund called ‘Bruce’. He stops being weird for 3 minutes when that advert comes on and stares adoringly at the meerkats. But fuck Putin. Thanks for ruining Bruce’s evening.

  10. Fucking finally. Hated that cunt since the first time the adverts aired more than 10 years ago it feels. Worse, there are the people who actually find it funny.
