Tool: Python Flask, Data: CDC Wonder Underlying Cause of Death Databases.
March 2020 was used as the before and after date from calculating annualized changes. The before period goes up to and includes Feb 2020. The after period starts with April 2020.
Really striking change. Wonder if it holds for other measures of reckless driving too.
It’s cool that you can clearly see when Covid shutdowns first hit
What is a transport accident? Like when someone gets in an accident while taking an Uber? Did they mean transportation?
I have noticed anecdotally that people have gotten considerably dumber and more dangerous on the road since COVID. This seems to confirm my observation on a broader scale in a certain way.
The change is not minor, but it looks amplified by the scale used (non-zero axis). Not beautiful.
Seems like there’s an increase in the summer months ever year. Why is that?
As someone who lives in the north, I would expect transpo deaths to skyrocket in December, when it gets dark at 430pm and there is ice on the road 🤔Â
The population changes year-to-year.
Why did you choose to represent this as absolute numbers rather than rate per 100,000 (or million or what-ever)?
