On December 5, the Certification Board of the Latvian Medical Association adopted a decision to revoke two certificates of a medical practitioner. LTV verified that the medical practitioner in question is Mednis, who, according to the decision adopted by the Latvian Medical Certification Board on Thursday, has lost his certificates as a pediatrician and homeopath.

Mednis has long spread misinformation about vaccinations. He expressed distrust in other doctors in connection with a child who died of diphtheria in September. The LĀB has previously publicly condemned Mednis’ statements. However, the doctor’s certificate, which was due to expire on September 11 this year, was extended until the end of 2029. It was renewed by the LĀB Certification Board.

Mednis’ allegations that the Children’s Hospital doctors were responsible for the death of a child with diphtheria were also examined by the LĀB Ethics Committee. This was requested by the Latvian Association of Pediatricians. However, the Ethics Committee refused to make public what was decided at the meeting.

The Board of Certification of the Latvian Medical Association decided to revoke Mednis’ certificate as a pediatrician and homeopath at the end of November but did not initially disclose the decision.
