How seeing military personnel get a €300-500 raise feels like

  1. Considering our soldiers are mostly old men who’ll retire soon, these raises are absolutely needed to attract new young men.

  2. Totaal andere context.

  4. honest question(s):

    – how much did/does a Belgian soldier earn (bottom rank, tier 1)? … and is this the same for all types (ie. airforce, marine, infantry…… genie, para’s, logistiek, etc..) ?

    – how much does a Belgian soldier earn when he’s on mission abroad? (f.e. Mali/Niger, Middle East, etc..) + How many months per year do these missions last, on average?

    – Can a soldier decide him/herself whether he/she wants to go on a foreign mission, or is it mandatory?

    – Are warm meals (dinners/lunches) prepared on their domestic bases free, or do they have to pay for it? And/or what other items and services are provided to them, free of charge, through the army (on their home base)? F.e. Clothing, perhaps a more permanent place to sleep, tons of gym, exercise equipment & sports facilities, reimbursement for work-travel expenses, etc..?

  5. Crazy that my brother will soon earn more than me (police) with regular wage. He usually just trains or idk what he even really does.

    We haven’t had a pay raise in 20 years either but everyone hates us so it’s okay.

  6. Military and police are key to maintaining law and order. A government must keep these groups happy or risk revolution.
