edit: i see the humour understanders have found this
What a strange rule to begin with, especially since razors cost a fortune.
I always thought this was to do with PPE type equipment, such as gas masks during certain incidents? the Fire Service aren’t allowed beards either for many roles, and it’s not because they were an offshoot of the Navy, it’s because the Breathing Apparatus they use can’t form a proper seal with many types of beard.
Wouldn’t really work with Sikh officers.
I’m glad they weren’t specifically talking about men.
My 40 year old wife has more facial hair than a female USSR weightlifter!
Would be a very silly decision to make in light of the Army’s recent change to AGAI 59 which means all soldiers can have full beards (but they must be full). Made due to changing public opinion, relevancy of CBRN threat, and ultimately recruitment and retention.
At the end of the day, today’s generation does not view a beard as unprofessional looking, and while I realise there’s a difference between our CBRN concerns and the Police’s crime scene (or whatever else, I’m not in the polis) concerns, the old respirator beard myth has been disregarded.
I would have thought the police were quite happy to come out and so no need for beards.
Mental it was considered. 5’2 female who can’t run, is obese and zero strength? We’ll stick you on front line. 6’5 athletic who can take down any criminal with ease? Sorry mate you have a beard
