Btw, he says it’s all a lie and keeps talking about God
America’s GOP are taking notes.
Rumour has it Georgescu already fled the country.
Don’t think there is much to celebrate here
I don’t see how this can possibly have a positive outcome
1 of 3 things will now happen:
– Romanians will vote differently & results forever marred in controversy
– The right wing candidate gets a boost from this ruling and wins again
– Elections postponed indefinitely
The EU made promises Romania and Bulgaria will join Shengen starting jan 1 2025 is that still gonna happen?
The worst thing is that his voters still remain with the same bitter taste for extreme political candidates. The problem itself lies with the voters who voted and will vote again. And I’m not referring only to RO. Across Europe and the world as a whole, you can feel a radical movement sweeping across. Included are Belgium, France, Austria with its neo fascist gouvement, Italy’ Meloni. Georgia has fallen, South Koreea, etc.
Ban TikTok!
I don’t know… I really dislike the decision to void an election. He didn’t buy votes, at worst he had tons of fake media backed by russia.
It’s bad for a state to have this kind of foreign ingerence, but to void the will of the people…. I don’t like it…
Ilan Sor is complaining about it so it must’ve been the right decision
Update: Georgescu’s supporters say they will go to vote tomorrow, even if the elections have been cancelled. They believe that they are being manipulated and that everything is a lie. Well…
I think what’s really important here is the precedent of a first ever serious pushback against russian hybrid war against the West. For example, there were numerous examples of Russia undermining various western elections and referendums, but the response, until now, had been very week. Well done, Romania. Perhaps the West will play it less nice in the future.
>The election starts all over again in three or four months’ time, to give candidates a chance to gather endorsements to run.
What a stupid move this was. Get ready for a Georgescu victory
This is of course an incredible decision but I would like to remind everyone – Europe is not the United States.
Having said that, while it sounds like “my guy didn’t win so the whole thing is rigged”, I do think that an election that is being manipulated via farm bots, paid advertising and others should be reviewed. Ideally BEFORE the votes are counted.
I’m of two minds in this – it sets a very dangerous precedent that elections “can” be overturned. But it also sets a remarkable precedent that elections will not be dictated by foreign interference.
Trump won, and this Romanian election is still the craziest political development of the year.
It’s nice to see that people are embracing censorship asking to ban some social networks. Just like their frenemy Putin.
But after they were telling us Russia is a pinnacle of democracy because apparently Russians elected themselves an authoritarian leader unlike everywhere where dictators came by stealing elections on Putin’s money, I’m not surprised. Welcome to 1984, a book written about UK, not USSR.
See, when putin bans Instagram, that’s tyranny, but if EU bans tik tok, it’s liberalism. You’re all pro authoritarian, don’t fool yourself.
So Romania votes via TikTok?
Hey USA: THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT. Ashamed of my country bending over to fascists.
Time to regulate social accounts.
Limit it to 10 interactions per day for starters
Account connected to real verified ID. You don’t like it, then good!
Yes you can have your random nickname.
Applauses!
Romania’s elections went from ‘We the People’ to ‘We the Influencers.’
Needs to become a trend every time there is Russian interference.
Wish the US could have done that
Blimey. Very hard to picture this happening in most countries. Can you imagine any evidence of malignant foreign influence that would see the US, UK, France etc just throwing out a whole election? If I understand correctly the (well-evidenced) allegation is that Russia cynically drove up support for Georgescu, not that the votes themselves were fraudulent. Well done Romania and take note everyone else.
paradox of tolerance in action <3
Can somebody explain on what grounds this decision has been made ?
Huge assist to Putin and all the authoritarians of the world. This will certainly fuel anti western propaganda.
It is not a matter of opinion.
It is a question of rules and pacts.
Paradox of tolerance and other things can be about speculation.
Democracy has rules, you abide by them and you are in, you do not abide by them and you are out, and indeed you suffer the consequences.
Full stop.
It is about time and it has finally happened.
It is about responsibility.
