I can absolutely see how this is a factor. You want to be as far away as possible from a neighbour whose life revolves around getting pissed.
Never, ever, live next to or even too close to a pub. Even if they are fine, you have zero control over what happens in future.
Edit: Also if you ever complain about it some smug twazzock on Reddit will tell you shouldn’t have moved near one.
This is so true. Part of the reason I bought my place were the great locals just a 5-minute walk away!
I’ve spent the last decade gradually moving closer to my favourite pub until I finally bought next door. Next step is to buy the pub.
I take it they mean the quality of the pubs rather than a ‘I was sat in the pub totally pissed and decided, y’know what? I’m gonna buy a house’
Monthly rent or 3 pints, both are financial decisions that most people will never recover from
It wasn’t the top factor, but it was a factor for me too.
Seems like an incredibly stupid thing to base a house purchase around. What if the pub landlord dies and gets taken over by a mega bellend who ruins it? You gonna sell up? What if the landlord decides to stop serving your favourite pint? This article seems to be a bit lads lads lads bravado.
Was offered a house in a neighbouring village.
Declined as no pub.
I don’t go out all that often these days but it’s always nice to have the option when I’m particularly bored through the week.
A nice pub is an indication of a nice neighbourhood.
A grotty pub is an indication of a grotty neighbourhood.
So ~60% don’t give a shit?
Also the question is often something like “Did you consider local pubs and restaurants when buying your home?”
Most people would have at least thought about it, but that doesn’t mean it actually made a significant impact
Also, does the study actually say it was a *positive* impact? I would deliberately *not* move too close to a pub
And as with any survey, I suspect pub-lovers were much more likely to respond in the first place
I’m sorry but why the fuck would you want to live near a pub for? Hearing drunk people Thursday night to Sunday night? Yes fuck that
