  1. Source is a longer newsreel [https://youtu.be/xmQct51Y7y4?t=195](https://youtu.be/xmQct51Y7y4?t=195)

I’m not entirely convinced the geolocation is correct, but it looks plausible enough from a few photos of Homs I’ve seen.

As for the tactics, the helos seem to prioritize staying away from all the SPAAGs that rebels have on their technicals. And occasional MANPADS I’ve seen them have lately.

  2. It is HOMS, the Russian Ka-52 Alligator is using the wheelbarrow technique to send unguided missiles towards the advancing rebels, and then getting the hell out of Dodge due to the rebels having a warehouse of captured Russian Manpads.

  3. For those in the know, can you explain to me how the targeting works with this? I know they pitch up to a certain angle to fire unguided, but how do they calculate the trajectory? Is it just guesswork or is there some math happening?

  4. Fucking hell, the pitch up rocket attacks have made it to Syria. They must really be worried about rebel MANPADS captures.

  5. This really is just turning into Ukraine: Speedy Sand Edition huh? Lol

  6. Damn they must be close as fuck if helicopters are doing this

  7. There’s a Russian port and airbase on the NW coast of Syria. The City of Hama is the ground line of communication between the Russian bases and the capital in the south. If Hama is lost, then those bases may well be lost too.

If Russia loses Syria then their investments in Africa will be compromised – they’re already pulling back troops from Africa.

  8. Anyone else thinking Russia will soon be losing another KA-52?
