  1. Hungary has billions of euros in EU funds frozen in its account.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán threatened Brussels on Friday that he would veto the European Union’s budget proposal if EU funds are not disbursed to his country. The prime minister spoke about this in a regular interview with public broadcaster Kossuth Rádió, reports TASR’s correspondent in Budapest.

According to Orbán, Hungary has over 12 billion euros in EU funds frozen in its account, while Budapest should receive additional money from EU funds in 2027-2028. If this does not happen, Hungary will use its veto power on the EU budget for the next seven-year period after 2027, for which negotiations have already begun, the prime minister announced.

“I can say with certainty that the money that we would not receive in 2025-2026 must be received in 2027-2028. If this does not happen, the Union will not have a budget because we will not support it,” he stressed.

Approximately 21 billion euros from cohesion and pandemic recovery funds allocated to Hungary have been frozen by Brussels due to the deterioration of the rule of law.

  2. Bruh is Hungary really that strategically valuable when Organ is on power and we in the age of drones..?

  3. I hope before Putin kills himself in his bunker he will release all the kompromat he has on fuckers like Orban, Trump, Le Pen, the AFD and others… So we can treat them as the traitors and criminals as they are.

  4. That a blatant, shameless thief like Orban even gets to make these kind of threats is absurd.. he and his cronies should be rotting away in jail for life considering the amount of public money they stole from European citizens..

  5. An irrelevant country of 9.5 million, contributing just 1% of the EU’s gdp, once again threatens the effective working of 440 million.

It’s pretty shocking that the EU is still giving Hungary development grants – these frozen funds are still just a fraction of what Hungary receives – pretty shocking.

  6. Yeah, fuck him. We’ll make do without EU funds, ousting this thief and his cabal is more important. Keep the money far away from his grubby hands.

  7. Europe needs some other system of governance. So that Putin’s petty blackmailers don’t do what they want!

  8. Just eliminate this g gangster once and forever, pls

  9. That’s the problem of having a system that depends on 100% agreeing with things.

It is philosophically wonderful, but very hard to get things done

  10. hungarian elections are in 2026, budget expires in 2027. itll be interesting to see what happens.

  11. First, annual budget approval eventually only requires a qualified majority vote of the EU Parliament if the Council fails to agree to it.
For the EU budget, it is the EU Parliament that has the last say and effectively the most weight in the budget process, not the Commission nor Council.
Second, even if a budget is not approved by January 1st, spending is possible based on the system provisional twelves (same monthly spending as the previous year).

As Shakespeare would say: much ado about nothing. Orban is just a bag of farts.

  12. Just saying orban is like a ceo of hungary. So like a healthcare ceo…

  13. At this point Orban publicly hates Europe, does not follow it’s rules or norms, sabotages it policies and the organization itself from the inside and at the end even manages to extort billions of euros from it. And EU can do nothing…

    Clearly something needs to change.

  14. As a Hungarian: please do not cave in to his blackmail! EU funds are feeding the maffia state here, we have been lacking them for only a year and Orbán’s party became the second most popular party already. Please do not give him money, he will just steal it and pay his cronies!

  15. Orbán and his associates are just common criminals. The only reason they are not in jail is that they control the courts, judges, and the entire country. They just want the funds, to purchase luxury real estates, boats, private jets for their friends and families, by stealing it via there private businesses.

  16. What if… let’s say… the EU sanctions him and removes his personal voting power instead of removing Hungary from EU, even if he elects a henchmen to do his bidding they do the same as long as it’s done to harm the EU on purpose. Sounds like an okay way to crackdown on obvious corruption, because if you do your job right and develop your country you wont have to worry about getting sanctioned

Im waiting to hear what other people got to say on the topic, maybe its shit idea maybe not lol

  17. Throw him out already and let him ask his russian pimp for money.

  18. He can have his funds any time he likes, he just needs to start following through on the commitments he’s pledged to abide-by by being an EU member.

If he can’t do then, that he’s welcome to go running and crying to daddy Vladimir.

  19. Won’t be long until he can’t veto anymore anyway, they are fairly close with removing Hungary’s veto permanently.

  20. Other than being annoying, this doesn;t mean shit.

EU has contingency in case budget is Vetoed:

Spending remains the same as previous 12 months, month by month basis until a budget is agreed.

Orban will be left with nothing.

I feel bad for the people of Hungary.

  21. Man I’m so tired of EU and NATO having moles in them.

  22. Looks like the EU will need to enact Article 315 where they can rely on monthly budgets based on the previous year’s budget. Any agreements to deviations to this will need QMV which is majority voting, as opposed to the unanimous voting which is currently causing problems.

The EU needs to stand its ground and not cave to little bullies that pop up now and again. It’s a guarantee for someone like Orban to be in power for a country at some point, and the EU can’t negotiate with unreasonable demands, or Orban etc will take it as a green light.

Monthly budgets voting is a nuisance but shouldn’t otherwise be any more complicated than currently – its a legal process.

Parents: “Well, then you need to move out.”

    Teenager: “Wait! That’s unfair!!”
