  1. Every piece of information they let ‘slip’ has purpose behind it – in this case I assume the actual death count is a lot higher than 48,000 (obviously this doesn’t include missing/injured etc.) and they’ve revealed this lower number to counter the 750k+ total figures western media are using

  2. More like they purposely leaked a propaganda figure they wanted their citizens to know as a counterpoint to the true and much higher casualty figure.
