Better than “thousands injured as government fails to warn people of imminent danger despite spending billions on alert system”
This is why I disabled them in my phone – because they will no doubt start firing these out every time we have weather which has been known for centuries as ‘winter’.
There will alerts for thunder snow, for frozen fog, every time it’s windy, so when the day comes that there is actually something that you REALLY want everyone to know – like a toxic gas cloud from a chemical works accident, or a rapidly spreading bush fire – half the country will have disabled them and the other half will pay no immediate heed.
Yup mine went off. And it reminded me to turn them off. Twats
That was way overdone. I almost crashed in my car. Really stupid idea.
Why on earth are people getting pressed over red alerts being sent to their phones?
JFC I’ve had this thing three times now and I’m not anywhere near the red area.
If they’re going to do this stuff they at least need to make sure it’s actually working or people are just going to turn it off.
Surely they’re using weather events like this to test the system? Good forward planning if you ask me.
In fairness; it’s the first time we’ve received the text since COVID amidst a backdrop of constant threats of nuclear annihilation thanks to war in Ukraine. Having 5 phones go off at full volume in my car earlier with emergency warnings was slightly disconcerting. I am glad that the system works and is being used though…

This country is too dramatic.
