I’m guessing it’s because they need spies who blend in to trouble spots. White people stand out in most of the world.

I’m confused so if you’re from a low socioeconomic background and White you wont get the job but if you’re from a deprived background you can apply?

Are some of these lowly paid jobs? Train drivers start on £24k, but can earn up to £60k. Sparkies average between £33k – £42k. Experienced Mechanics average £35k according to online (start near minimum wage).
Is £30k now class as a low paid salary? They’re traditionally blue-collar jobs I know. But I’ve never met a hard up electrician. Most are better paid than white collar jobs. Seems very specific to put a restriction on parents occupations, in addition to race. They’re targetting a very small set of people. Usually from disadvantaged backgrounds you try to work on household income don’t you?
Becoming like south africa. Look at our once efficient, powerhouse of an economy.

Jobs should be given to people with the best qualifications regardless of colour or gender.

A white country should cater to its white native citizens and those other group that have been there for generations first, not illegal immigrants or africans/arabs who don’t want to work anyway and won’t give it their all.
It’s different if you are a legal, hard worker no matter you colour and gender I’m all for it.
It’s not difficult to work out why our security services might need more people from diverse backgrounds. Hugo from Eton might have a tricky time infiltrating an Islamist terror cell.
In general I would agree that this kind of blunt and heavy handed equality drive is not the best.
Yet in this situation with security it makes sense that you have to have cultural and community knowledge and you can be as blunt as you want about getting it.
It’s not about just having people who would fit in it’s about having the right people who can look at a text message and understand why their are words in cirtain orders, pick up on missing words or know locations based on nicknames.

I’ll throw a guess out: security services has an internship program requiring certain characteristics due to a service need. There are individuals not fitting those characteristics. There are other internships within the service where those limiting characteristics don’t apply and those individuals are free to apply.

Which is just targeting poor minority students. Even the bit well off minority students are excluded from this opportunity. So it’s not just white folks who are excluded

I said this months ago. I was trying to apply for a Cyber security internship and they said the same thing. Instead of taking on people that want to serve the public, have an interest or the best. I think their policy was to get at least 30% of PoC.
While Russia and China are just taking people that actually want to work. Not trying to offer females more money to come and work. The government’s working environment compared to private company benefits suck. You will earn more at Big tech than Government.
When I was applying for internships, rich international students from China, Singapore, Hong Kong etc were eligible for diversity programs giving them extra help with their applications and quota positions. These were students who attended top international schools, were able to afford £40k+ in uni fees and living expenses (per annum), plus who’s parents were often prominent business people in their home countries.
One particular case that I found out about whilst I was doing my internship was a Singaporean girl who attended Le Rosey in Switzerland for high school ($100k+ per year in tuition fees), followed by Oxford. Who was also eligible for these programs because she was so “disadvantaged”.
Then people like myself, white male from a working class background who attended a standard state comprehensive is not eligible for any help.

Based on my experience of the last six or seven years of working, EDI occupies a lot of people significantly more than the job they are actually paid for. Such a weird thing to observe.
I have no issue with it in principle but it’s being pushed into everything to such a ridiculous extent that it’s being prioritised over other more important things and people are building careers around advising people on how to do EDI stuff that feels… Pointless. I spent months doing a critical technical paper on a government priority subject, and I had to go through the absolute ludicrous indignity of making up a load of bollocks for half a day, to tick a box to ensure that was edi compliant. Literally everyone in my management chain was doing the exasperated eye roll, all knowing it was a waste of time for this work but still, had to waste my time doing it anyway. And everyone working any sort of policy is doing the same thing. Incinerating hours and hours of valuable time filling in forms around this stuff, the absolute vast majority of which are nothing other than a complete waste of everyone’s time.
I even had people insist I create an EDI objective for my annual review. It creates this weird situation where everyone is fucking falling over everyone else to exude this aura of constant over the top self-righteousness. Now that’s better than everyone being racist bastards but it’s absolutely definitely going way too far in the opposite direction. And ofc the biggest workplace bully I encountered over the last five years got herself a nice award for her stupid EDI project, all while she was over doing a total David Brent telling the black guy in my team how much she loved Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington, and being a total shit to all and sundry, but let’s give the twatbiscuit an EDI award lol. You couldn’t write it.
As someone from a minority background, working in England, I found it exasperating to have people insist I do this stuff for my job, and constantly shove it down my throat.. The amount of resourcing and intellectual energy going towards this stuff is frankly fucking outrageous and it’s usually patronising and hectoring, but served up with an inclusive smile.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are all very good things but it requires a twenty minute e-learning session at the start of your job, not a whole department of people in every organisation constantly shoving their noses into everyone’s work demanding we all fill in pointless forms every time we do absolutely anything.
Classic rage bait. The racist instigators love this plus conflating everyday crime with when they try to cause nationwide riots and they fail.
