Polish Radio has provided DAB+ frequency to Ukrainian Radio

Due to the large number of refugees from Ukraine who have fled and continue to flee to our country as a result of Russia’s invasion of their country, Polish Radio has temporarily launched real-time transmission of the Ukrainian Radio signal – through its digital transmitters in DAB+ technology. This will allow Ukrainians residing in Poland to listen to the broadcasts of their public radio station also in Poland.

It is very important that our Ukrainian friends, who are received and hosted in various parts of Poland, have access to the latest news directly from Ukraine – in their native language. Currently, digital radio transmitters in DAB+ technology are located mainly in urban agglomerations and along major transport routes, and their signal reaches almost 70 percent of the population in Poland. Polish Radio’s DAB+ transmitter in Przemyśl covers part of Ukraine and has border crossings in Medyka, Korczowa and Przemyśl within its coverage.

    – Polish Radio is involved in helping Ukraine in every possible way. We have just made our DAB+ frequency available to Українське Rадіо. It is another manifestation of our solidarity with the Ukrainian people in this dramatic situation. By making the frequency available, we want to reach the largest possible number of Ukrainian citizens who need information in their mother tongue’, says Agnieszka Kaminska, President of the Management Board of Polskie Radio. – It is important that in this situation also other media, including radio stations, come up with various initiatives addressed to our Ukrainian neighbours. This is an expression of solidarity with them and not a competitive race – she adds.

Radio One began broadcasting special news services in Ukrainian almost immediately after the attack on Ukraine. These services are prepared and presented by journalists from the Ukrainian Section of the Polish Radio Abroad. The broadcast is transmitted from a long wave transmitter (225kHz). Polish Radio Programme 1 covers most of the territory of Ukraine. The possibility of receiving the Channel 1 radio station is independent from the telecommunication networks in Ukraine and in the absence of Internet access, it may constitute one of the few sources of real and objective information for the Ukrainian population in the areas of warfare.

In addition, the Polish Radio External Service also broadcasts to Ukraine on UKF frequencies – thanks to its transmitters in Kiev and nine transmitters in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Several days earlier, Polish Radio made the signal of the public Ukrainian Radio available on its Internet channels. This is an additional opportunity for Ukrainian citizens residing in Poland to listen to a radio programme in their language. Ukrainian Radio can be listened to through the Internet player of the Polish Radio and on the platform moje.polskieradio.pl.

The signal of the public Ukrainian broadcaster has also been added to the mobile app “Polskie Radio” – for free download from Google Play and App Store.

  2. Comment / Disclaimer: Polish Radio is state owned corporation, widely considered as run by propagandist of current ruling party in Poland – PiS.

There were numerous reports showing loss of listeners due to massively increasing government propaganda and visible in multiple analysis reduction of available air time for different views than those pushed by the ruling party.

  3. does anyone remember AM radio? a lot of android phones have them. Reminder that apple refuses to enable the radio chip on their phones.

  4. Does anybody listen DAB+?

The best radio frequencies in an emergency (wars, earthquakes, floodings, etc) always have been the AM, because it offers more coverage than FM radio or DAB.
