Ahsoka Season 2 will be headed to the United Kingdom to film its second season. This move also coincides with something surprising – for the first time since Lucasfilm pushed for creating live-action shows for Disney Plus over six years ago, there are no shows in production for their Los Angeles sets at this time.

IndieWire broke the news of the change in venue for the show’s production, which is a bit surprising, given that the first season was shot in Los Angeles. With no new series announced and all other series having ended, Ahsoka Season 2 is presently the last live-action Star Wars Disney Plus show that is set to film. Unlike the first season, which was filmed entirely on Volume sets, Ahsoka Season 2 is expected to use a greater variety of filming techniques, which may explain the decision to move the production overseas.

This gap for productions on the Los Angeles side may coincide with delays in the start of filming for some of the many live-action film projects that they’ve announced, but haven’t yet moved forward with. Whether or not that’s the case, the lack of immediate plans for filming shows may signal a strategic shift for Lucasfilm, as they may prioritize developing fewer live-action series going forward. Lucasfilm sources indicated that more television series are in development, but as it stands, Ahsoka is Lucasfilm’s only show that is actively in the pre-production stage for now.

Likewise, it is unclear if Lucasfilm plans to compensate for this live-action content flow deficit for Disney Plus by developing more animated content to replace it, or if there will be a reduced overall content flow for the streaming service. IndieWire’s sources indicated that this move does not signal the end of filming future live-action productions in Los Angeles in favor of moving all future productions to the United Kingdom, with no decisions about the future of Star Wars productions having been made at this time.

All eight episodes of Ahsoka Season 1 are available to watch on Disney Plus. Ahsoka Season 2 is in development for an unspecified release window.
