    I read somewhere that infantry (in the traditional sense) is obsolete with the advent of drones, and on the horizon, AI controlled autonomous killing robots – air, sea and land.

    Basically, if you do not have effective countermeasures, human infantry is fodder.

    You can have a fully trained (at great expense) and equipped infantryman, in his fighting prime, taken out by someone (male, female, old, young, fat, in a wheelchair etc) flying a armed drone operating in the rear.
