From partygate to Putin’s war: Boris Johnson rides on a rare wave of unity

  1. I wonder if he even notices Zelenskyy’s desperate pleas to join the EU and all that we took for granted?

  2. The war will cause Labour’s poll lead to evaporate.

People have forgotten or moved on from the parties. Things like the threat of European War have a strong uniting effect.

Boris is safe at any rate. Nobody will think now is the time for a change in leadership.

  3. I mean in fairness, it’s hard to get the response to the Ukraine crisis wrong. Although our sanctions still have plenty of loopholes in them, and the military aid to Ukraine was something pre agreed by many NATO nations during May’s tenure. So it’s not like that was something Boris decided to do, it was already prepared by the MoD.

I certainly don’t think the Tories have handled this any better than Starmers government would have. For a start, we wouldn’t have Truss managing foreign communications with the Kremlin. I can’t think of a more unqualified cabinet.

While Corbyns response has been shocking. it’s hard to say how Corbyn would have acted in government where he is working with military advisors and intelligence experts. It’s easy to be flippant on the outside where there is no liability for getting it wrong. Corbyn has proven in the past he is willing to put his personal feelings aside if the expertise points a certain way. So we may never know exactly how his government would have responded.
