  1. Have these cunts not considered just driving at the speed limit?

  2. It’s almost like lowering the speed limit to 20MPh hasn’t been particularly well received

  3. I think there should be more rumble strips about, you barely see any anymore

  4. Not really waste if it’s a useful bit of equipment that doesn’t get vandalised

  5. How are councils going to make up the funds shortfall???

  6. “I stood up to the man and fought for our freedom against the crushing boot of the nanny state!”

    “What did you do, dad?”

“Cut down speed cameras, so that kids can be hit by speeding motorists.”

  7. I love it when Reddit backs the government.

“But what about the speed limit”

The speed limit that just got reduced to 20mph across ALL of wales? I’m glad the citizens actually decided to stand up for once rather than just accept the bullshit.

There has to be some nuance in these discussions what they did in Wales was insane.

Edit: amazing I see a thread earlier on Reddit backing reducing surveillance powers in Europe but we back more speed cameras yeah?

  8. On one hand I don’t support this as it’s criminal activity and in England/Scotland most 20mph speed limits are in perfectly acceptable places (town centres, busy pedestrian areas, schools etc etc). It’s like the ULEZ wankers in London who complain that they can’t own a massive diesel car and go and destroy cameras.

On the other hand in Wales the blanket 20mph zone stuff has gone down about as well as piss on cornflakes and quite rightly so – people are annoyed at having to drive slow because their local council can’t be arsed to independently assess roads which may need lower limits. So this is activism with a half decent reason behind it

  9. I’m all for timed speed limits that say between 8am and 7pm, on this street, the speed is 10Mph, create some green speed signs or something shiny that indicates its a timed speed, beyond those hours, its 30/40 depending on the layout of the road. There’s a timed 30mph dual carriageway that used to be a 40 mph road until the introduction of those cameras years ago. There is a school located halfway down it on a corner, but at night there’s little rhyme or reason I can see to stick to 30mph. There’s large grass verges and then secondary roads before you get to houses on both sides.

  10. Good. I agree there needs to be limits and they need to be enforced where appropriate but so many of these cameras seem to be located purely to generate money than in locations that are linked with any kind of safety concern.

  11. People who break the law angry about things that catch them breaking the law so break the law some more.

  12. For all the “speed kills” brigade calling for even lower limits….

Police accident investigation data is on the ONS website. Speeding is a contributory factor in just 7% of accidents, in fact inappropriate speed where you’re below the limit but too fast for conditions is slightly higher. Driver error at 49% is the highest contributory factor but you can’t monetise that by camera.

And if it’s so dangerous then why on 6th April 2015 when the government upped the speed limits of the heaviest least manouverable vehicles on the road with the longest stopping distances 25% on single carriageways from 40-50MPH and 20% on dual carriageways from 50-60MPH was there no increase in the accident rate for them?

  13. ah good news. although as usual, if you’re going to be driving near me or around my kids, maybe keep the speed down a bit, otherwise, go crazy 🙂

  14. Someone do the M6. There’s a stretch of road that goes to 50 with average cameras everywhere that I have to drive through to and from work and it’s a pain in the arse

  15. All the new average speed cameras, police hiding on bridges with speed guns and 20mph speed restrictions are about raising income under the guise of safety! Look at the millions it brings in.

  16. I can understand a 20mph limit near schools but lets be honest. When there’s kids going to school, the traffic is pretty much at a standstill anyway. Usually if I ever go to drop my kids off, there’s so much traffic that when I get near the school it’s around 15 mph at best.

  17. Look, it’s our taxes going down the drain because of some dickheads who don’t like following speed limits

  18. I’d agree to less speed cameras if we immediately ban those who cause accidents/damage/deaths, along with ensuring they pay for all damages and it has to come from the persons pocket not insurance.

  19. I don’t understand why you can pass a test and deemed to be ok to drive until your confidence in driving goes or a doctor says you can’t.

Any kind of license needs to be retested or readminstered professionally, but driving is not.
