  1. > The SNP have launched a renewed grassroots campaign in a bid to unite the support for Scottish independence and turn it into a movement.

    > The campaign is focused around four points: the sharing of promotional materials, starting conversations, being part of a collective reach and reading about the latest arguments for independence.

    > The call to action added that if every SNP member spoke to three people, the party’s message could reach 200,000 people and that it would be grassroots “campaigning at its best”.

    > A statement for the campaign reads: “As a devolved parliament, we have often found ourselves in the position of having to fix the damaging decisions taken by Westminster. From energy policy to migration, from economic strategy to climate action, the powers we currently hold are simply not enough to protect the interests of Scotland. And so, we act as the brakes on Westminster, pushing back, protecting, and fighting for what’s right.

    > “But what if we didn’t need to stop Westminster’s damaging decisions? What if we could make our own choices — decisions that put the needs of our people first?

    > “This is the case for Scottish independence. It’s time to stop fixing the UK Government’s mess, and start charting our own course with independence.”

    > The announcement ended by saying that support for independence is strong with support consistently polling around 50%.

    > “With your help, we can turn that support into a movement that delivers independence for Scotland,” the statement reads.

    > “We can create a future that’s fairer, wealthier, and more equal — a Scotland where we make the decisions that matter.

    > “The road to independence is ahead of us, and with your support, we can build a better future for Scotland. Together, we can deliver the change we deserve.”

  2. I voted yes last time but this stuff feels like the “People’s Front of Judea” vs “Judean People’s Front”

  3. Oh. So they weren’t doing this before then?

    Enjoy the grift.

  4. Another “one last push lads” that should have been happening eleventy-thump years ago.

    Grifters gonna grift.

  5. Got to get the donations rolling again, I suppose.

Can folk trust they’ll actually be used for a political campaign this time, or will they be (at best) just woven through party finances again?

  6. The reason the movement isn’t united *is* the SNP.

For any sincere grassroots movement it’s not going to come from yet another relaunch by a Party that has sought to alienate any part of the Independence movement not controlled by them.

  7. Im behind them all the way on independence but like.. wheres the roadmap?

  8. With Nigel and reform gaining momentum in England this looks more and more appealing every day

  9. Reeks of desperation. The SNP have taken the Scottish electorate for granted for too long and deserve to get wiped in the next election. If you’re a party with a primary goal and are *further* away from said goal after over a decade of power then the problem is you. The political equivalent of doing an “all nighter” before a uni exam after skipping lectures all semester.

  10. Fairly simple one methinks…

    Q. Do you want to be ruled by a Tory/Reform UK Government through the 2030’s and 40’s?

    A. Yes…do nothing or No…support independence.

  11. Look over there! It’s them! It’s not us! Nobody look at us!

  12. Have they resolved the split with Alba re trans issues then?

  13. Any trust I had in the SNP on independence seems to have vanished into the ether. I want proof that they’re serious because right now I’m not feeling it from them. I want action plans made to actually truly gain independence from the UK government.

  14. And who is going to lead this “grassroots campaign”? There is no one that can lead such a movement. Alex Salmond spent close to 30 years being pretty much the face of the independence movement and Nigel Farage has spent almost as much time campaigning for Brexit (even if he was sidelined as the main face in favour of Boris Johnston during the Brexit Referendum). Anyone that is left is either too young to lead as it is or they are simply incapable of leading a campaign. Sturgeon squandered it, Humza was pretty much useless and Swinney is still a damp squibb, while the remaining hopefuls aren’t exactly the most inspiring lot.

This is the reason why there will not be another referendum for at least 20 years.

  15. If you want rid of the SNP and think we need to rework our politics then view for independence. The SNP won’t be a party in an independent Scotland as they have so many political differences and just see this as their focus. Independence would change the political landscape.

  16. Still flogging that dead horse are we? Goodness me.

  17. oh brilliant, and then the next election will come around and they’ll dial back the independence talk to appeal to a wider base again, and around and around we go.

  18. How can it be “grass roots” if it’s launched by a political party?
