The U.S. made a huge mistake in the run-up to the Russian invasion. The U.S. refused to reconsider Ukraine’s NATO status as Putin threatened war. Experts say that was a huge mistake.

  1. Then they aren’t really experts. It wasn’t going to happen. No nation with an existing territorial dispute can become a member ( a moments reflection and you will realize why). Ukraine still disputes Crimea and Donbass is current

  2. Also saying no US soldier will fight for Ukraine was pretty stupid… It’s a reality at the moment, but it doesn’t gain anyone anything to say it… if anything it just shows they’re not really serious about that mess.

  3. That NATO thing is a red herring. Putin made it crystal clear in his “Blood and Soil” speech that he doesn’t consider Ukraine an independent country or Ukrainians a nation. He considers them confused Russians living on Russian territory in temporary rebellion since the great geopolitical catastrophe of the Soviet Empire’s collapse.

His initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014 happened after EuroMaidan, not NATOMaidan. Ukrainians wanted a trade agreement with Europe and that made Russia invade.

You can always count on finding some “experts” in the west who go with the “Blame the West” first narrative no matter what happens. It’s just a feature of the western world that these people pop up and they feel perfectly safe driving it.
