  1. > The year-long delay could equate to additional global forest loss of about 2,300 square kilometers, according to EU studies.

That’s ok we have plenty of time, and I’m sure there’s a good reason for the delay.

    > “It seems that especially some of the European member states have not done their homework in preparing their stakeholders, their industry associations, their Chambers of Commerce for this law in time,”

Yes, well, of course. Can’t have unprepared Chambers of Commerce!

  2. It boils down to material egoism: “I want to have a better life. Therefore I will vote for the party that promises that, usually through promising more money, usually through tax relief.” Therefore doomsday messaging is very unpopular amongst politicians (and I rarely use this word this inclusively – I like to point out that there’s differences and we should always vote for the better alternative even if it isn’t perfect). And so on, all the way up to the EU parliament.

I guess it also depends on what you define as a better life. I’m not young anymore, but I see what’s happening to our ecosystem now and I can easily extrapolate into the future. For me, a better life is where this does not happen.
