When I informed my family and friends that I was taking a 17-day trip to Iran, they looked at me incredulously. “Why would anyone want to travel to Iran?” “Aren’t you afraid?” With those thoughts in mind, as our plane approached the Tehran Airport, I heard the announcement, “It is the law in the Islamic Republic of Iran that all women must cover their hair.” I put on my scarf as we landed and debarked not knowing what to expect.

Upon my return, I resolved that I would share my experiences to diffuse misconceptions that people might have about Iran.
