TLDR:
* The actor, 28, surprised several sports commentators on ESPN’s *College GameDay* — and fans — after he showed off his impressive knowledge of college football on the [show’s latest broadcast](https://people.com/timothee-chalamet-astonishes-espn-announcers-with-his-college-football-knowledge-8757929) on Saturday, Dec. 7.
* While appearing on the broadcast as a guest picker, the [star made his first pick](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDSjPYgJENx/?igsh=MTJ1d21pbGcyNmx1Ng%3D%3D), choosing the Jackson State Tigers over the Southern Jaguars in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).
* “I’m going Jackson State, eight wins in a row, 11 all-conference players. It should be a comfortable, easy win for them,” Chalamet said. The *Wonka* actor then went on to predict an Ohio Bobcats win over the Miami RedHawks, sharing his reasons why he believed that the Mid-American Conference (MAC) upset could happen.

28 year old straight white man likes football?!
He was reminiscing on the 1980s lol
I think a lot of his picks hit also minus Texas.
He memorizes lines for a living and was literally reading off a piece of paper. This is so dumb to be impressed by.

Skinny guys like sports too!
Why does Reddit seem to hate this guy so much? Am I out of the loop or something?
He’s got a 20 person team & you would think at least one of them is a sports fan. He still came off well though.
He is the Kwisatz Haderach
Why? Why is anyone surprised when a movie star, etc is knowledgeable about sports? I hate this. “OH! You are a good actor, AND you know your college football!!!l”
Just because you’re in Hollywood doesn’t mean you know nothing about everything else outside of your job. Ugh. So goddamn annoying.
He should be our next VP
He is also an actor…so maybe he just studied well for his part in the pumping college foosball game…
The frat boy allegations continue.
He picked wrong in the SEC Championship
GO GET YA SELF SOME MORE SPICE, MY BOI
He’s an actor just doing his job
Almost like being a sports analyst is just doing some research and acting
WHOA! CRAZY STORY! The fact this popped up on my front page shows I need to re-evaluate the media I consume. Time to mute.
He’s turning into his character from that espn sketch he did on SNL
Disney = ESPN = 20th Century Studios = ‘A Complete Unknown’ starring Timothee Chalamet as Bob Dylan in theaters December 25th.
It’s just a movie promo.
He really did a great job on there. He brought a lot of energy and definitely take it seriously.
He’s also an actor and good at memorizing lines and he’s clearly reading off cards to start each pick. You can see them in his hands. So maybe it was his knowledge, maybe he prepped with a friend ahead of time or maybe the staff helped hm.
Honestly, the knowledge doesn’t really matter t me. The big thing is he took the appearance seriously. He’s just there to promote a movie and a lot of actors just come out and do the least possible. He took it seriously in the prep and in his behavior (performance if you will). That’s something we can be certain of. And it’s great.
I have to admit, he did well. I get he’s an actor (and a pretty good one too) and can “act” like he cares about football and blah blah blah – but he was entertaining and brought energy , that’s all you can ask from a guest picker. The kid did good

Talking heads on espn are overrated. Chalamet proves that.
that’s crazy. it’s almost as if people aren’t one-dimensional.
He did a quick chatgpt query 5 min before hitting the stage. Having proficiency memorizing scripts allowed him to quickly digest output and effectively regenerated it on air.
The cynic in me thinks this is just some publicity stunt aimed to legitimize him or make him seem cooler in the eyes of young men, who seem to hate him for whatever reason.
Feels like none of these media appearances are organic at all, especially if an actor has a new movie out something.
Made him significantly hotter in my opinion
He just rehearsed it
He was reading off of notes. I bet someone else prepared and wrote them. Moreover, he will be in a football movie soon.
He was great! Loved seeing him.
He was reading the teleprompter.
He is an actor, he studies lines and repeats them. He waits for cues to speak, that’s why his SMU
prediction was funny bc he forgot his cue and jumped in front. Its all rehearsed bc he had zero business being there.
It’s very cool he was into it and took it seriously, but regurgitated like 20 bullet points that he could have memorized in the Uber to set.
People at like actors don’t have normal people hobbies and interests
I think people like to box actors into being theater kids and athletes into jocks like it’s still high school
