Syrian rebel forces are preparing to enter Latakia. Hmeimim, just close of Latakia, is reportedly being hastly evacuated by Russians.

  5. They failed Syria, and we failed Iraq. Now we’re even. It’s not the same, but let’s not fail the Ukrainian people.

  6. Latakia is the very historical (1500 years) area of the Alawites (Assad ethnic group). I guess after that there’s not much more to go in. This said these rebels could take the boats and head to the Kremlin it would be fine.

    Are the russians ***abandoning*** Khmeimim Air Base?! Khmeimim is Russia’s primary airbase in Syria and lets them project power throughout the Middle East. Abandoning it is a very big deal.

  8. Amazing how they did this with Isuzu trucks. Special military operation by the rebels took Syria in just days. Russia just took a fat L.

  9. As much as I love to see Russia take a loss and yeah, it genuinely reduces Russia’s reach. But it’s no help to Ukraine. If anything Russia has one less thing to worry about.

  11. Russia deserves every moment of panic theyre feeling right now as they evac this air base. Theyve bomb so many hospitals, schools, and other places that syrian children sought safety in during the nearly a decade of Russian air support for Assad. Any Russians left in Syria by the end of the week will probably wish they were dead once the rebels find them

  12. This unexpected boon presents an ideal time for a new Ukrainian surprise incursion, even if a small one. Who knows? Anaphylactic shock might cause Russian collapse before the true size of the effort is even realized.

  13. I like to see Russia getting done over but are these rebels friendly to the west or are we swapping one bad idea for another?
