Roadtrip near Bergen
I’m visiting Bergen after 8 years by late April to May 2025. It’s a 5 week vacation and we already booked our activities in Flam, Oslo and other EU countries.
I’m looking for activities/tourist spots within this location that is child friendly as I’m bringing my family with me.
Questions:
-
I’m a new driver in Canada for less than 6 months, is it advisable for me to drive from Bergen to Voss, Utne and Odda?
-
These are the tourist attractions that I research, are these free and accessible with 1 year old child?
- Tvindefossen
- Money Drop Waterfall
- Skjervsfossen
- Vidfossen
- Espelandsfossen
- Latefossen
- Utne
-
Can I do 2D1N in the above tourist attractions? Where to stay in one night?
-
What are the requirements to rent a car and drive in Norway?
Thanks for your recommendations and suggestions!

Don’t speed, or the cops will get ya!
Most rental car companies require you to have your driving licence for twelve months minimum. Some even require you to be a certain age or older (probably around 21 to 23).
The traffic isn’t too bad at that time, you should manage, though some of the roads you may choose are narrow and anything but straight. The locals start driving there as fresh drivers too;)
I don’t know all of them, but Låtefoss is free. Utne is a place, depends on what you want to do there?
FYI Bondhusvatnet is near there(I think parking is free that early in the season). Folgefonna too. There also are Via Ferrata climbing options though not sure when they’re open
